What to do in Nassau?

  My fiance and I are taking a cruise to the Bahamas that stops in Nassau for a day. We were considering going to Atlantis but I wasn't sure if it is overly touristy and crowded.  We were also considering snorkeling. Has anyone been to Nassau that can help recommend on shore excursions?

    We have been to Nassau twice and the snorkeling is okay.  Our favorite thing was the SUB adventure!  We booked this through the cruiseline although I think you can book it privately.  We also bought the DVD of us doing it :)

    Honestly I didn't care for Nassau.  We had it as a port of call on a cruise as well.  It was a very dirty port and a lot of the locals seemed really scummy.  I didn't not feel very safe there.  We spent the entire day at Senor Frogs with a stop at the rum cake shop.

    I honestly think the only perk of the Bahama's is diving!  So if you aren't a diver, I find the rest of the island blah.  Snorkeling might be fun- I am not a fan of Atlantis, it is like Vegas, but super expensive and very crowded.  

    Nassau is great for scuba diving, but otherwise,I found very little else to do, even the beaches that weren't part of the bigger hotels (Atlantis and the Hilton) are rocky and not for lounging on.  

    That sub thing looks kind of cool!

    I do agree that it isn't the nicest port and def not our favorite ... however when you are doing an excursion you really get to see the beauty and colors of the bahamas.  Whatever you do book something.  Don't just get off the boat and walk around.  You will be disappointed.  I have heard that Atlantis is nice, but we felt liek the ship was a giant resort anyway so we didnt want to spend the money to get into another resort.  So, we paid to so the SUB thing and then went to the beach for the rest of the the time :)
