2012 is coming! Last night Big Butter Jesus got struck by lightening and burned to the ground.
For those that have travelled southern Ohio on I-75 I'm sure you've seen him...he was 62ft tall. It was so sad driving into work this morning and not seeing him

It's very strange. We have several people that were late to work today because the traffic jam it caused. I came in and told my boss "Jesus made me late today" and he said he expected it. It's very strange how many people are reacting to this...myself included. The statue has been there for a long time and it'll be weird not to see it.

I don't know what it is with the "build it bigger" idea...I'm not sure, but I think somewhere in the Bible it says NOT to do that.

When I first read your title I was all ZOMG SAN FRANCISCO!!!! But I'm ok now. Every time we mention that we might move there, 8 out of 10 people (give or take, ha) ask if we're aware that there will be a giant earthquake in the next decade. Thanks, guys.

Earthquakes, schmearthquakes. :P They aren't that bad or scary, seriously. I'm WAY more terrified of tornadoes and hurricanes. But I'm a native Californian, lived through a major quake already ('89, Loma Prieta, 7.1) and we usually find the ones in the 5 range to be kind of fun (as long as there is no major damage).

The major damage usually comes, now, from unretrofitted buildings or other large structures, like unreinforced raised highways. So while big earthquakes are scary, the damage from them is not as bad as it used to be.

Bubba, my family lived in Marin until 1994, and I was three when the '89 quake happened! I remember it distinctly and actually asked my mom to make it happen again. Apparently I enjoyed the trees moving around.

Poli, you were farther from the epicenter than I was.

I was 12 and we lived in San Jose, while the epicenter was closer to Santa Cruz. That quake was terrifying, honestly.
