Mama Dips-Chapel Hill

Has anyone ever eaten here? I was telling my boss that I needed some ideas for restaurants for our rehearsal dinner and he recommended Mama Dips. I told him that my family is from New Jersey and I really wanted to have a southern style meal and he said Mama Dips would be a good choice. I've never been, but has anyone been here before? If so, do you think its a good idea for a rehearsal dinner location? Thanks!!

I loooove Mama Dips. Awesome catfish.  If you're really looking for southern-fried country food done really well, it's a great place.

It's been a while since I've been there, and I've not looked at it with a rehearsal dinner in mind.  I think it'd be worth checking out, make that picky eater of yours take you there one day ;)

I've eaten there a couple of times and it was great! It would definitely provide the southern cuisine you're looking for :)

Crooks is also good.  Or, have you thought about having a Pig Pickin?  Truly southern.  That's what we did and all our guests loved it.  It is a casual option.  We rented a venue to do it and got a caterer--Coopers in Raleigh, but there are some good caterers in Chapel Hill also.

Do you have any recs for venues? I would like to do that whole catering idea, but I haven't found a venue I can do that at.

We had ours at Montague Pond in Raleigh--gorgeous venue, but unfortunately, not convenient for you.  When I was hunting for a location, I did a lot of googling.  I found these links:

    And this looked interesting:

We also were considering a couple of the parks in Raleigh.  One of my concerns was having a covered area in case of rain and I was having a tough time finding one that was both attractive and convenient to our church, but I think they could be worth checking out as well because they are reasonably priced.

Ultimately, I found our venue on a wedding photographer's website because they don't market or advertise, so I just came across it accidentally.  It did take a lot of hunting, though.

Janece,  I wanted to throw out there that we had our RD catered at a historic home in High Point (not that my venue would help you) and it worked really really well.  The logistics were great because we didn't have to worry about timing or other restaurant patrons or parking or anything like that.

That is a good idea Mary! I would like to find a venue like that. I'm going to look around Raleigh/Durham and see if there is something similar. Janece

If you're open to Raleigh, Haywood Hall is very nice.  it's downtown.  So is Tucker House and I think it's a city park.  The Borden House at Fletcher Park also is a Raleigh City Park.

That's all I can think of right now.
