Does anyone travel to Mexico? Is so WHY????

Mexico is a MESS. Corrupt gov., drugs, violence, etc.
We would not go to Mexico if you paid us.
Why does anyone give their hard earned money to support this corrupt country? Yes there are nice places in Mexico and Afghanitan but I see no reason to support them.
Turn off the tourism $$ and maybe they will step up to the plate instead of trying to hide crime stat's under the rug. If you think you are safe any where within the boarders of Mexico I have a bridge to sell you.

gosh that is idiotic! Let's stop the 1 source of legal economic strength for these people based on the fact that the drug lords are causing so much violence! hhmmmm maybe we should stop the people who are buying the drugs! Come on and get real, if there was no demand here in the US, then there would be no money to support the drug lords. Not everyone in Mexico is part of a drug cartel, but if you stop their legal income, then what does everyone do that isn't earning money from drugs? What happens when immigrants NOW flood the US? What happens when they have no where to turn to make money? You are a moron and clearly not up on geography. I say we stay far away from the hood in NYC so therefore I won't go to Disneyworld---Yeah that is how far the problems are from the resort areas. Before you scare the other brides here with your crazy thoughts, maybe you should get the facts cuz let's face it, our government is way better with dealing with drugs, corruption and publicizing our own countries stats!

Oh wow. I see you are from Baltimore, so I'm surprised that "corrupt gov., drugs, violence, etc" bother you so much. The 10 days I just spent in Mexico were far more pleasant than any ten days I've spent here. It's ridiculous to say that we should stop visiting Mexico because of some corrupt individuals - for the most part, the people living there are not involved and they would be the ones to suffer the most.

I've been to Cancun and Cozumel and LOVED both places. DH and I are looking into going to Cabo and have only heard amazing reviews.

If we should avoid countries that are corrupt and have drug wars going on, there would be a lot more countries other than Mexico to avoid. You can't judge an entire country and it's people by what a few corrupt people do. Corruption is everywhere.. look at our government.. goodness.. I majored in Political Science and I am disgusted by most of the senators and reps who make up our congress.

You might want to do a little research before you post something so idiotic. You do realize that there is corruption, violence and drugs in the US, right?! Also you do know that the drugs from Mexico come to the US because of demand here, right?!

I am so tired of ignorant people who condemn a whole country, nationality or group because some people belonging to said decide to do stupid things.

BTW, we go to Mexico at least 1x per year sometines more. We have always had wonderful vacations and the staff at the hotel and people we meet there work extremely hard and provide outstanding service.

You probably don't understand much, so I am not going to waste my time, but it is nice to know we will not have to deal with anyone like you when we do go to Mexico.

I've been to Mexico and loved it and will be going for my honeymoon. In case you haven't heard, just about every Latin American country is going through something similar, it's just more publicized when it regards Mexico because it shares a border with the United States.

As a Latina, I'm well aware of what is going on in "our" countries. While I'm from Costa Rica, which for the most part only conjures images of beautiful beaches and eco-tourism to most, there are a lot of things that are going wrong in the country for example the same type corruption within government that you're apparently disgusted by in Mexico.

So are we to condemn those who are trying to make an honest living because of the wrong-doing of others? Tourism in most Latin American countries is the one legitimate source of income. And let's not forget that while we sit here on this side of the border, there are many in this country who are enablers to corruption in Latin America. If there wasn't a market for drugs, would there be so many suppliers?

Frankly this post was in poor taste.

Umm, living in Baltimore you do realize that you are in one of the cities with the highest murder rate right. I'm right up there being that I live outside Philly.

Let's put it this way. When DH and I were in Cancun in March I actually felt safer there walking the streets at night (yes, we went out walking everynight for some exercise) than I do walking the streets in Philly at night.

This is also an ignorant statement. Chile, Argentina, Uruguay off the top of my head - I fail to see the massive crime and drug issues. Corruption in many countries sure, but you can't make a blanket statement like that speaking for the "vast majority" of Latin America.

I was planning to go to Cabo for my honeymoon, but your enlightening post has really opened my eyes to what a horrible, 5-star resort area I would've been going to really is. I mean, man, I don't want have my margarita on the beach ruined by some drug lord coming in and stealing all the salt. <<--sarcasm

2. Yes of course the drug industry touches every country, and I know that the north of Chile especially sees a lot of it. I never said that those countries are completely free of drugs, simply that they do not have the major drug trade-related problems seen in some other countries. I don't think most people would say the US has wide-scale drug-related violence (in the kind of areas/social strati that a tourist would encounter), but of course drugs are bought and sold in the US.

3. Duh. That's why I said "corruption is in many countries". I'm just saying you can't make a blanket statement like "every Latin American country" has a similar level of violence, drugs and corruption as what's going on in parts of Mexico.

I really don't get why you came at me guns a'blazing. You're not disagreeing with me - I said that not all of Latin America is as bad as PPs had made it sound by lumping all the countries together, and you're arguing the other side of that which is that to some extent, pretty much every country (in the world, not just LatAm) has some level of drug and corruption problems. I also have a degree that included Latin American studies, so there's no need to wave yours around like it makes you the only authority on the subject.

That's not my point. Countries will be corrupt and simply there is trafficking in Chile and Argentina as well. Even if you aren't hearing about it on the news, because we are so distracted by Mexico, Colombia, Brazil. I'm just trying to say that it is everywhere and it is still a major problem in South America, including Chile and Argintina. Because as long as there are buyers (U.S) then there will be suppliers and there will be means to export it to U.S as well as across borders in South America. Argentina has been declaring a "War on Drugs". It is massive worldwide.
