Disgust. SFW.

Not because I'm Canadian. But because it is the most ignorant and arrogant piece of writing I think I've ever seen.

We even defeated Canada 5-3 in hockey Sunday night, beating our hosts at their national game.

Hey, you douce. Hockey isn't actually Canada's national game.

  • Yeah, thanks for doing your part to erase that whole "Ugly American" stereotype, dude.
I'd like to see an article on what all of the olympians with headphones are listening to while they compete. I'm totally curious.

Me too! Watching Kelly Clark snowboard was hilarious- it was like karaoke.

    ETA: reading that article now!

I agree with Smokey.  If I have an hour or so, I'd like to watch the highlights and the people who are really pushing the limits of the sport..

It would be great if everything was posted online or something so that people have that option.
In Response to Re: Disgust. SFW. : It's because it's a judged sport. Judging = opinions. Everyone has differing opinions. Mark has a hard time watching judged sports. If I weren't a gymnast once upon a time - and I'd kick his ass, he'd say that judged sports aren't really sports at all.

That's probably true.  It's not about fast you are; it's about how good someone thinks you are.  Also, it's also the value placed on aspects of a performance.  Like is fancy footwork more impressive than a quad?  Is an okay quad better than a good triple?

  • It's a cable channel that has events on all day that I watch, so I don't really know what  the other channels are like.

Whatever, I read it with a different tone in my head.  I'm just gonna go back to reading my book now. :)

Hmm, I came away with a bit of tongue-in-cheek vibe from the article. I think he has the house guest from Hell pegged perfectly. For me, I would rather see a much broader sample of events, not just the ones where the USA is expected to medal. I LOVE watching cross-country and biathlon, probably because I competed in cross-country in high school, and actually raced on the Olympic biathlon course in Lake Placid when the meet was there.
  • Ahh, Sara, you are a better woman than I.  I have run marathons, but I can't watch a marathon on tv either.

I suppose that is why there are 6 hours of this a day.  But believe me you, NBC friggin' dropped the ball by putting Hockey and Curling on MSNBC.  Well, for me anyway.  My DVR ain't that smart.  Or it's me.  Either way....

Not meaning to sound ignorant here, but I was watching the Ski Cross event a couple days ago and thought of this, and yes this is a real question.

How do the Jamaican athletes train for winter sports?  How are they exposed to snow-covered mountains enough to be good enough to compete in the olympics?  Do you think they just come from Jamaica originally, and live somewhere else most of the time?

I can't speak about the Jamaicans in particular, but it is true that many, many athletes train (and live) in cities, countries, or continents other than the one that is represented on their sleeve.
  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Jamaican athlete from California? I think he's got dual citizenship through his dad or something.

  • That Platinum crap is way childish. I mean, you competed well, you got a metal in the olympics, which you are still young enough to compete in the next go around, and all you're gonna do is go, "well, I'm better and stuff so there!" Maybe you'll turn into an adult in 4 years for the next games. I hate even playing board games with sore losers, I'd hate to do something like that!

As for the article. Really dude? REALLY!?? You cocky jerk. Ooh. Our can of whoop-ass, you go sleep on the couch! Me and my remote! I'm eating all of your food and drinking your metaphorical beer...
I want to kick you in the nuts. Way to be a visitor. I'm down for USA winning and all, but not if you're gonna be like that when you do it.
Night swimming in the ocean= pretty sweet reception!
  • I don't even need to read the article to know an asshole wrote it.  I really dislike ESPN in general, especially when they broadcast my favorite sports teams.  They're a bunch of arrogant idiots who didn't know enough to make it in real life, got lucky with a sports career, and think they know something about their sports when they become too old to play them, so they broadcast instead.  Lame.
  • I also read that some of them train in indoor facilities with "fake" snow and stuff.
. And the womens' snowboard cross - Lindsay Jacobellas (sp?) just quit as soon as she tripped - I guess she knew there was no point in finishing because she wasn't going to get gold. Asshole.
    Posted by pumpkinpumpkin
She got DQ'd for hitting the flag. Why the hell would you continue if you got DQ'd??????? So get over yourself.

And for what it is worth, when Jonny Weir was performing, the french canadian announcers were making fun of him for the way he dresses/acts (he is very gay) and saying he should undergo gender testing...

I know that this thread is dead now, but I wanted to add that I also agree that Lindsay Jacobellis was dq'ed when she clipped the gate marker. She didn't just give up because she knew she wasn't going to qualify. Do you really think that she'd just throw in the towel after making that stupid asss hotdogging mistake in 2006? I don't.
