Band vs Dj or Both? Recomendations?

So we initially thought DJ, but now considering a band. Any opinions on Band vs DJ? If we had a Band we thought we'd probably also need a supplemental DJ? or does the band usually come equipped with that capability?

Any recommendations on a great band?
We are getting married in Newport at Rosecliff.
TIA!

In my opinion, there is nothing that beats a great band!!  We are using Rare Form.  They are an eight piece band and can pretty much play anything.

We are not hiring a DJ to play during breaks.  The band told us that we can either make them a CD to play or we can actually create an iPod playlist and they will hook it up.  We are going to do that because my FI is Russian and his family would really love to hear some Russian songs so that is the perfect opportunity for us to incorporate his culture.

If you can fit a band into your budget, then do it!  Bands are really great and really get the crowds going.  I like bands that have male and female singers so they can perform more songs.  Bands usually have an ipod to play during breaks.  Remember that you have to feed every member, so add that to your overall price.  (Vendor meals are usually pretty cheap though.)

We did a DJ b/c we didn't have the budget for a band.  The nice thing about DJs is they can play ANY song.  Our first dance song was perfect for us and I really wanted the real version of it, too.

I am going with DJ because bands were pretty much out of my budget. I am also an out of state bride so I didn't really have the time to find a good band. Bands can be really awesome and add alot to a reception but also can completely ruin them. If you do decide to go with a band just make sure that you have the time to check them out ahead of time rather then just rely on reviews.

If you do decide to go the DJ route i'm using John from Rhythm Productions.(http://www.rhythmpro.com/) He is VERY professional and actually spins at the Landings in Newport during the summer.
