I am just wondering if anyone has advice on how to pick a DJ. I feel like I am blindly picking DJs - how am I supposed to know if I like their style? I had a friend refer a DJ to me but he has chosen not to return my phone calls or emails so now I am on my own. If anyone has a suggestion for how to pick one, or even a good DJ under $1000 that would be great!! Thanks!

The basic package was a little under $1K when we booked in 2009.

They did a tremendous job at my wedding!
We met with a few different companies, and watched the videos to see which emcee's style we liked, and then chose that person. I wouldn't pick a company without being able to meet with the emcee you'll be using first (before signing a contract), and making sure you like their style. Just because you might like the "company" doesn't mean you'll like the emcee you get, unless you get to pick them yourself.
I went to a bridal show and really hit it off with a DJ there. We stayed for their presentation and then set up an appointment with him. We really got along and since the prices were around the others I was seeing we went with him. I also got a discount because this company was on the list my venue suggested.
