Why mashed potatoes make you feel better!

Starchy, carbohydrate filled foods increase the release of saratonin, which makes you happy.  That's why they're good comfort food.

I read that today and instantly thought of desertsun.

What about me? :( I made a post awhile back saying that mashed potatoes make everything better.

I think I'll have them for supper tonight.

Am I the only one who prefers instant mashed potatoes to the real ones?

I do love me some mashed taters!

And, perhaps not surprisingly, I also have had problems with depression since I was a kid.

Got to a point where I had to choose between being obese, suicidal, or on meds.

I choose to stay on a relatively small dose of anti-depressants, combined with consistent exercise, and small, consistent carb doses in the form of fries, mac n cheese, and mashed potatoes made with fat free sour cream and skim milk.

    Works for me! :)

It depends on how "real" ones are made. I don't like the real ones if they are too chunky. I guess I prefer whipped potatoes(with brown gravy of course!) Do you like the brown gravy or the turkey gravy better?

I had mashed potatoes last night for dinner, with chicken fried steak and garlic green beans.  Yummy.

As long as both of you won't eat turkey gravy, that's fine. I'll eat them plain. But I do love them with brown gravy.

It's a weird light color gravy. Most people eat it with turkey.

I love mashed potatoes! I do not, however, like brown gravy. I do like turkey gravy, doesn't everyone eat it on Thanksgiving? My favorite way to eat them though is with some butter.

Are you talking about the white sausage gravy that people use for biscuits and gravy? If so, that's not what I'm talking about.

I like my mashed potatos without chunks, and usually no gravy. However I like then with cheese and chives and garlic mixed in. YUM. BF makes the best mashed potatos.

I am also a potato purist when it comes to potato origin. I like Idaho potatos (that was deffinetly a deciding factor in moving to WA, potatos are so cheap here!!)

    I will allow mushroom gravy.

But I'm usually too lazy to make it.

Esp. since they're just as delish without!

FI (who isn't real, per my earlier post) makes them with red taters, chives, horseradish and sour cream. I like em lumpy. I also like my applesauce lumpy and my bacon floppy.

Oh by the way, I just had a tube of crescent rolls explode in my hand and now I have dough all over the kitchen.

I like floppy bacon, but something about chunky mashed potatos just doesn't work for me. But I do like the red potatos with the skin still in the mashed potatos.

    Crescent rolls are also delicious

That sucks about the cresent rolls. :( Were you just going to make rolls, or were you going to make something else?

OK, now I am VERY hungry.

When I was little, my mom used to put a pat of butter on top of my mashed potatoes. And I would eat the pat of butter separately before it melted, much to my brother's chagrin and disgust. I did this until I was about 8 or 9.

I also love lumpy mashed taters and lumpy applesacuse (I make my own!). I don't like bacon ((((runs and hides)))).
