Morning ladies - I made it through the wedding. Froze my asssss off waiting outside while they flipped the room (lots of other guests talked about this). Had crappy food. Watched the bride be less than ladylike (fist pumping like it was the jersey shore, and not on the dance floor, either). The cake was good. Had a few glasses of wine and called it a night pretty early. Glad that's done.

I haven't seen Magic Mike yet either.

I'm so ready for the weekend. My christmas party for work is tonight, so it will be a relief when it's over (I have to plan it). This weekend will be ridiculously full of homework, christmas decorating (finally!) and hopefully baking.

So YAY! I just got the shipping confirmation on the kitty tower we ordered. It should be here in a few days. It's massive! 45 lbs

Added to that, my Shutterfly books are apparently en route. Happy Day!

Kitty towers = good. Hopefully that'll keep them occupied for about 10 minutes a day.

Anna, that kitty condo looks amazing!

We got received our Shutterfly books yesterday. They turned out great! I'm happy that we also ordered one for each of parents as part of their Christmas gift. I like the wedding album I created way better than the photographer version. I do layout for a living. I should have know I'd prefer my own work better. I probably should have researched if there were sites where I could create a book with nicer pages than what Shutterfly offers. That would be my only criticism of the one I made. I know the professional one will at least be printed in great quality with those nice thick pages and leather cover.

Britt and Edie - It was so much fun! McFly and H and I had a great time running through the rich neighborhoods looking at lights. It's pretty ridiculous how big the houses are and how elaborate the lights are, but I enjoy them

We're going to be having a lot more half day meetings through the end of the year due to the 'fiscal cliff' which I can now tell you all about. It's going to make our jobs a lot harder if they don't pass certain legislation, and we're just preparing for it.

Everyone is going to be affected by the fiscal cliff, just some more than others. I can only attest to the tax portion of it, there may be more parts of the fiscal cliff.
Undoubtedly, everyone's paychecks will be reduced.
If you've ever heard of alternative minimum tax (AMT), it's a tax (in addition to your regular tax) that people have to pay if they meet certain criteria. Usually it affects people that have a very high income, but attempt to offset it with a lot of deductions. Their regular tax will be low, but the AMT will be higher. The argument that a lot of people in the higher tax bracket have is that they may have a low regular tax, but that it's more 'fair' becaue they have to pay AMT. Most middle class people don't pay AMT, but it's not unheard of.

Without getting too detailed, the AMT also has some exclusions, but a lot of those exclusions haven't been adjusted for inflation since the 80's, so it hits more people every year. A couple of years ago, they passed a patch to keep up with inflation, but that expires this year and they're considering just letting it expire.
If you're married and you make over 150,000 (not including any deductions), you will probably have to pay AMT next year, and that is drastically low for what the AMT was initially intended for. When it was instituted only 150 people in America had to pay AMT.
