So I just saw my dress on ebay in a size 12. I'm am an 18 for this designer. The wedding's in January. Should I risk it? I could save up to $500.

Don't do it. You'll spend at least that much on alterations....

Don't do it. that is way to many sizes to try to alter or lose weight. Usually, a dress can only be let out up to one size. So, you'd still be two sizes off, that is likely anywhere from 25-45 pounds, depending on what part of your body you lose the weight from, and the fit/cut of the dress.

If you saw your dress on ebay, you may be able to find it on other sites. Keep looking at craiglist, recycledbride.com; oncewed; preownedweddingdresses.com . It it were a 16, I'd probably risk it... anything smaller than that is unlikely that you'll be able to fit into it.

I agree, too much of a risk and you would spend almost that amount in alterations. Its tempting though, I ran into a similar situation, its a rush like "oh wow, 500 bucks, that's good chunk of change" then I called my sister/moh and she set me straight

Ok, so hear me out, lol. I want to put a corset back in it, which would stretch the sizing a bit. I'm waiting for quote from the seamstress.

hahahaha. It sounds like you are really trying to convince us that you will be able to make it work, rather than asking if we think it will work.

Adding a corset will help. But depending on the cut of the dress, it will only help so much. If it is a fit & flare or dropped waist, adding a corset isn't going to solve the problem. Also, you probably don't want your corset "all the way" unlaced. It will look like you are wrapped in sausage casing. There is only so much fabric in any given dress. Adding a corset isn't going to change that.

A size 12 and a size 18 are dramatically different. Maybe you should go back to the store and try on a size 12 and see how far off it is, so you have an idea of what you are dealing with.

Also, consider posting your dream dress here. Maybe we can help you find it in the right size?

Listen to cmgilpin. She is giving you good advice. Atleast see how a 12 would fit to see if changing it to corset back would work. If there is one on ebay there could be more in a closer size if you wait a bit.

lol, yeah, I suppose I am trying to convince you it could work. I have some time to lose weight and I think i could do it. it's just that the cheapest I can find the dress new is $600, which is about 100 more than i wanted to spend. I know thats a small budget, but there you go. And if I order it new, I have to do it pretty soon, so that doesn't leave me much time to wait and see if a better offer comes up. Thank for the offer to help. I think I have scoured the internet pretty well, but here is the dress:

Ohhh, good for you!

I'll keep my eye out for that style. I cruise the used wedding dress sites pretty frequently. I have my dress, but I'm not convinced it is THE dress, so I keep looking for something better.

I meant to tell you... have you tried calling Pearl's Place in Louisiana? They are a "real" brick & mortar store in LA and they sell dresses at a discount. Lots of the brides on this site recommend them. They don't give prices over the internet though, you have to call them. But, since you already know exactly what you are looking for, you might try giving them a call.

they carry AA, and you can usually get a pretty decent discount, from what I understand.
