It's oh so quiet

Is anyone around tonight?

If so, what are you up to, and can you help me figure out what to cook for my ridiculously fussy family for lunch this weekend?

  • 48 megabites is bigger than 250 kbs, I think... I just looked at my resume and it is 30kbs... how is yours 48 MB?!
  • and thanks for recipe suggestion! That could work!
  • I think it's becuase I have the headers as text boxes.

I made that recipe for thekids and they loved it. So much so when it was lunch time the next day, H says that was the first thing they both went for. So if it can please teenagers...

why is your family so fussy? Kids? Vegetarians?

I am typing with one hand because I have henna + a sock on the other, listening to DH snore.

ETA nevermind the fussy q! lol

  • Hi Reddy!

Oh and the resume is only 40 mb, but still how do I get that shrunk down to 250 kb?

  • sun- could you do vegetable shish kabobs or a potato dish?

That does sound like a challenge...

  • Sun, that's the craziest shiit I've ever heard. Who doesn't eat that much stuff unless they're allergic to it?!
  • I'm freaking still working on this scrapbook page! I'm almost done though (thank goodness).

I was going to suggest pasta because everyone likes pasta, right? but I see that is not the case.
  • Ooh! Good reminder Roxy. I was going to start work on a photobook of our time in Italy. :) Today is perfect for that because it's gross as hell outside.
  • Sun, if you use that recipe, DON'T add the water they call for. That was a flippin mess. Just add "enough" to make the sauce a bit waterier than it is out of the jar.

  • oooh Amoro, I like the photobook idea.

Although we were going to do an actual photo album so we can add the maps and ticket stubs, etc. But then we realized we may need that stuff for the final leg of the visa process and I'll be pissed if I go through all that work just to have to tear it apart.

  • Hm. I should add that stuff too. We've been carrying it around. :)
  • Our mantra was "ooh save that, Immigration will like it."

  • Mrs, I have no idea on your resume. How did yours get so big? (that's what she said)

Oh, lots of people here now! Sorry, I went off to cook dinner which is now simmering.

And Amoro, I have no clue. They are just insanely fussy. I don't really know why (aside from the obvious- that they were brought up on mince, potatoes and over-cooked beef roasts), but it has got worse as they've got older. My mother told me to serve 'ham and bread rolls' for lunch... when I jokingly (half jokingly!) called them fussy, she replied, 'we can't all be as adventurous with food as you are'... because pork and lamb are clearly adventurous!

My father also 'doesn't like' lots of vegetables and fruits, like beans, avocado and olives, which makes salads difficult. The first time we had them over, we wracked our brains and decided to go with the 'safe' option of shepherd's pie. I didn't realise my father had some crazy corn aversion, so we had corn in there, and he picked out every.last.piece of corn. The next time we had them over, we went mexican- I made mexican chicken bake (beans and chicken thus which I knew he wouldn't eat, but the rest of my family were ok with it) and nachos... surely can't fail with that, right? Except that my father and sister wouldn't touch the gauc because of the avocado, and the 'corn chips' clearly taste like corn (WTF?!) so he picked those out and essentially just ate a bit of mince with cheese. He didn't say anything either time, but it's never nice to be serving someone and realise that they don't like ANYTHING you've served.

Last time, I thought I had them all sorted with the beef roast- until my mother got up and insisted in microwaving it for herself and my grandmother, who then couldn't chew her leather-meat. Sigh!

  • H and I are vegetarians, and you'd be surprised how many people write off our dinners with the phrase, "I can't do vegetables... they mess me up inside." Just won't even touch ANY veggies.

wtf? And most of the time they are heavy meat/ fried food eaters. Which makes me laugh because their food would wreck H and I.

  • I wonder if I took of the references page if it would be smaller?

This is the size your resume gets to when you have 20 years experience. You young things...

That's hilarious because it "messes them up inside" since they haven't had any in decades. Ridiculous.

I think I'm making empanadas tonight.

Yeah, but can't you remove some of the older stuff?

Also, Reddy, I'd love to see some more of your wedding photos.

I never get people who insist that they cannot eat vegetarian dishes (although, I do believe that there may be one in this thread! Sorry aMrs- although I have a feeling you have allergies to some veges or something similar, which makes it very understandable). I love vegetarian food- I think people who don't love it haven't ever really tried it, because there are so many totally awesome vegetarian meals out there.

    Posted by AmoroAgain[/QUOTE]

aMrs, I just remove any job that doesn't fit within the first two pages of the resume. Mine certainly doesn't list all the jobs I've held, just the most recent and/or relevant to the particular job I'm applying for. I think having too long a list just disengages potential employers- you're best removing and sticking to most recent or relevant, IMO.

  • H grew up in a crunchy town, and had lot's of vegetarian options. I've tried some of the more popular foods and they're just... not good. He made a vegetarian roast one day and it smelled so good, but the taste. Man, the taste.

I've only had one vegetarian meal I really didn't like (which I made myself- probably no coincidence!) and I think it was about the eggplant not being prepared properly. That stuff can be really bitter if you don't prepare it in the right way.

Now I am craving vegetarian lasagna... or pumpkin and ricotta anything, mmmm!

  • I had never heard the word 'crunchy' before and had to google it, I'm surprised since I'm from Oregon, lol.
