Questions for hotel(s)?

Hi ladies,

I'm in the process of visiting a few hotels (in Shelton) for our guests (wedding is at the Waterview).

I'm hoping to decide on two hotels at different prices (one cheap and one moderately priced)...

Any good questions that I should be asking before I reserve a block of rooms? I've thought of the major things (breakfast options, van/shuttle availability, check-in/out times) but didn't know if there is anything I should be making sure to ask...

I definitely plan on doing out-of-town bags, and I'm assuming any hotel wouldn't have a problem with me dropping those off or distributing in rooms... right?

speaking of out of town bags, what the heck do you put in those things, i need to get that together too....

I'm getting married at the Waterview next year too and we reserved 30 rooms at the Shelton Marriott because Waterview has special pricing with them. I was told that they wouldn't have a problem with dropping off your out-of-town bags as long as you drop it off the day before. Also ask the hotels if they have any sort of conferences or events going on that weekend. Nothing worse than staying at a noisy hotel on your wedding night.

We are getting married at the Waterview next year as well, and booked with the Hilton Garden Inn in Shelton.
We wanted to make sure that we were not responsible for paying for any rooms in our block that weren't filled. Also, the option to add more rooms to our block later on if we needed to.

Melissa, I stayed at Hilton Garden in Shelton 3 years ago for FI's sister's wedding. The staffs were friendly but our only complaints were that the breakfast kind of sucks(standard egg beater eggs and burnt bacon) and their shuttle was like a van so FI's parents had to get a shuttle to transport everyone back and forth.

I would check on OOT bags. Different hotels have different policies. Some will hand them out when guests from your block are checking in, some will bring them to the room. A lot of hotels will charge you a small fee for this, usually around $1 per bag. I would also ask the hotel if someone books a room using reward points or some other promotion instead of the room block, can they still get a bag.

And we used the Trumbull Marriott for our Waterview wedding.

We are friends with a lot of big partiers and our reception ends at 11pm so we know they will want to stay up well into the night. So we asked if they could keep the hotel bar open late or if there was another option for us and they said it was fine if our guests wanted to stay up in the hotel lobby they could be as loud as they wanted there becuase the lobby is far enough away from other rooms that we wouldn't disturb anyone. That was a tip we learned from other weddings we have been to.
