signing venue contract

Can anyone tell me what a venue contract should include.  I was provided a copy of a contract from a venue I am interested in but it seems to general. Should everything be included/spelled out such as the  food for cocktail, how many stations, food for  reception, linens, etc.

Absolutley, you are paying for stations - it should be listed on the contract - how many.  The food selections (how many) for cocktail, food selections for dinner and a list of the dessersts that will be offered, coffees, etc.

Bar content - top shelf - how many stations or rolling.

EVERYTHING should be on the contract.

I agree with ToniAnn. Get as much detailed info as possible! My mom almost paid the price for not having everything in writing. The event manager was switched for my bridal shower and wanted to charge almost $10 more per person, and refused to include the coffee and tea service that was promised by the first event manager!!

Our contract also includes the timeframe we are allowed to use the space, tax, gratuity, and estimated number of guests as well as a guarantee of the price per person. I ended up working with our event manager at the venue through 2 revisions of the contract, and am very glad I did! Just makes you rest a little easier when it's all in writing.

I had the same experience when signing my quote with Waterside.  I spoke in detail with Francis as I was concerned the contract was so vague. After speaking with Francis, I was reassured. She was willing to add some language to the contract and also had them include the tentative menu that was provided with the package.
