Signature Drink Help

We are planning to offer a signature drink to guests as they enter the reception.  We will not be charged extra for this drink as long as it can be made from the regular full bar we are having at the reception and is not labor intensive.  Since ours is a complete DW, I wanted to do a New Orleans type drink, but am having trouble coming up with something other than a hurricane.  Maybe a champagne cocktail? Or maybe just do a standard drink and give it a New Orleans-y name?  I'm at a loss for good ideas here....any help would be appreciated!

    I would go with the hurricane myself, but possibly Pimm's cup?  Pimm's wouldn't be part of your regular bar, but would only add the addition of one liquor, and it's easy to make....your other options (sazerac, brandy milk punch) I think are kind of gross...you could go with a mint julep, but that isn't really new orleans per se, and is more labor intensive....a champagne cocktail would be nice, but champagne usually isn't included in even the top shelf bar option, so you would probably have to add it....wish I could be more help!

    There's an article on Martha Stewart online with signature cocktails. One of them is "Rum & Juice", which she connects to New Orleans. Or how about Sazerac? I'm sure you can make any drink "New Orleans"....this is a party town! Ha!

    I second the Pimm's cup.. Ive been thinking that i wanted this as my signature drink, too. I am a local and our favorite date night place is a place called the Napoleon House in the French Quarter, and the Pimm's cup is their signature drink. it's light,  cool and refreshing for a warm day or evening. I hadnt thought tho about it being a different liquor than the uysual stuff, i thought it was just gin? I'll have to look into that too...

    Thanks ladies!  I LOVE a Pimm's cup, but I would have to purchase the Pimm's separately because it is not included in the regular bar package.  It would run me about $150 to do so and I'm not sure if it is really worth it since most guests will grab the signature drink as they come in and then head upstairs to where the open bar will be.  Champagne is included in our full bar package if we go with the premium package- we are still debating if we will stick with the medium package or upgrade to the premium.  Decisions, decisions.  I'm starting to think maybe the standard hurricane is the way to go.  :/

    Where is your reception?  that is awesome that champagne would be included!  It's going to cost me an extra $400 on top of the $44 a head I'm already paying for bar just to have champagne >:(  I really want it though :)

    Don't forget our history of a Port City that harbored Bogues, Rogues, and Pirates.  There are a ton of drinks out there with Pirate themes, and that cannot be argued. There is a drink called the Jean LaFitte- Kinda involved, but it sounds kinda cool.

    We had Nola sig drinks and used Pimm's Cup and Canal Street Daisy.

    I love a Red Rooster. It's orange juice, cranberry juice and vodka in a tall glass with ice.
    First time I had I was at a party just off Audonbon Park. It was their family's favorite drink and they walked around with huge pitchers of it.  I always think of it as New Orleans answer to the Mimosa :)

    Our signature drink was a French 75 (gin, lemon juice, sugar, champagne). It is delicious, and sounds like you'd have all the ingredients in your bar package!

    I was just about to suggest the French 75!  They have a bar here named after the drink.  You could also do an old fashioned (whiskey, orange, cherry, sugar, bitters), which is a great option instead of a sazerac.
