Invitations RSVP date?

I know invitations should go out no later than 6 weeks, but what should the RSVP date be?? Any thoughts?

It depends on when you need to have the final count to your venue.  I would do 1-2 weeks before that so you have time to contact everyone.

i would shoot for 8 weeks out, so that people have time to get the response cards back. and give yourself 2 weeks before the final count is due (which is usually 2 weeks before the event, but not always). you'll spend some time tracking people down, despite thinking everyone will be responsible and send the cards back, many won't. so make sure you have enough time to work on this to reduce the stress of it. I would go with ten days to 2 weeks before your final count is due.

So, if your final count is due a week before your event, I would have the RSVP date 2 weeks before that, so that's 3 weeks out from the event. If you send the invites at exactly 6 weeks, I would ask for RSVPs three weeks after that date.

    Does that make sense?

ETA: This summer, we got an invite for a wedding over three months before the wedding itself. I seriously forgot about the wedding by the time it came around. The moral of this story is that it is possible to send out invites too early.

We sent our invites out about 7 weeks beforehand, and the RSVP date is Feb 5, which is 3 weeks before the wedding.  It gives me a good cushion to call people who don't RSVP, but our count isn't due to the venue until 3 days before the wedding.

My wedding is July 9th.  I am sending my invites out by May 1st and they are due back by June 1st.  I did this because the hotel discount goes until June 9th.  So my procrastinators will still have time to book their rooms.  Also, I know that there will be people I will have to track down.  My parents had to for my brother's wedding in October.  They also had a  month between RSVP and wedding.  It worked out well because then they had time to work on their seating chart.

I'm planning on sending out my invites NO LATER THAN April 9th (which is 8 weeks out from my wedding date)

I'm going to have my RSVP date set for May 7th which is 3 weeks before the wedding... Although I'm having my tasting next week so depending on what they say I may change this...

I think having them respond 3 weeks in advance is good advice. I sent mine out on the 8 week mark and had the respond by date 2 weeks before and I felt a little rushed. Some people are just not going to respond, so you have to track them down. Then people who do respond will call and change their mind, etc. Doing this a week or two before the wedding when you have a million other things going on is kinda frustrating.

I had RSVP's back 3 weeks before the wedding.  I had to hava e final count 2 weeks before, so this gave me a week to track people down.
