Your "everyday" Foundation

Hey ladies! This isn't exactly WR, but I need some suggestions for foundation for everyday use. I'm currently just using Loreal mineral make up with a primer underneath from Avon, so I clearly don't spend a ton of money on make up. I find that even when I sit inside my A/C'ed office all day, I start to get a little shiny by the time the afternoon rolls around. So I'm just wondering what foundation and/or primer you ladies use or would recommend. If you wouldn't mind advising me on the price too that would be very helpful. I think that I might have to start venturing out of the $10 line of foundations. Thanks so much!

Re: Your "everyday" Foundation

  • i love mineral makeup. i dont think i will ever go back to liquid foundation.

i love bareminerals. i also love how it has SPF
  • I've tried that foundation and find that it makes my face oily too. I've been using Dr. Perricone's No Foundation Foundation. It's more like a tinted moisterizer and has SPF 30. I don't use primer with it, but I put L'Oreal True Match powder over it for a little extra coverage. My face doesn't get oily. However it is pricey at $50 a bottle because it also has good stuff in it that helps with anti-aging.  I also like Clinique's Even Better Foundation. It's $24.50, lightweight and stays on all day.

Is this is a liquid foundation?

  • I recently started using "FIT" foundation and mineral powder...its a great combo and works for dry or oily skin.

  • I use Milk of Magnesia as a primer, and it works AMAZINGLY, because I got tired of spending money on high end primers like MAC, Makeup Forever, Urban Decay, and honestly as odd as it sounds I haven't found anything else that keeps my face LITERALLY shine/oil free all day with a full face of makeup on.

With that being said I'm using Makeup Forever Mat Velvet+ (liquid) right now, I'm not thrilled with it because it is harder to blend, and I still Prefer MAC Studio Fix Fluid with SPF15 (liquid) because it blends so much better and I feel like I have to use less product to get the job done, but also because  they are one of the only few brands that make shades dark enough for African American skin tones. As for powder I Use MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation, and I don't think  I'll ever switch from that.

  • I recently started using Arbonne liquid foundation and makeup primer

  • I currently use Makeup Forever Mat Velvet which I love - it is harder to blend, but I find it really helps keep me shine free and provides the coverage I want...bonus is that its one of the only foundations I've ever tried that I can put on my forehead and not have it melt off halfway through the day

I do love MAC either Studio Sculpt or Studio Fix, they look awesome when I first put them on but they always end up melting off

My new fav product is the MAC Blot Powder.  A teensy tiny little bit on my forehead and nose really helps keep the shine at bay plus you can re-apply throughout the day as needed and it doesn't cake
  • I really like the new Burberry foundation. It works for people probably up to tan skin, but not much darker, but I love it. Looks great.

In the summer, I use Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, which I really like as well.
  • I use BareMinerals and I love it! My skins feels so soft and smooth with it on!

  • I use Lancome Tientidol and then put Lancome Dual finish powder over the top to set it. The foundation is $42 and powder is $35. The powder works well for throughout the the day for shiny touch ups. I, too, don't sweat or have extremly oily skin, but the shine pops through and the powder makes my makeup look fresh.

  • I use MAC for face and body. I love this for an everyday look because it has a very light coverage and for me I don't need to necessarily cover up anything. It also makes my pores look a lot less visible. Then I top it off with MAC blotting powder because the foundation is a a bit too dewy looking for me. I am pleased with this as I have tried different brands of liquid foundation and have not been happy with any, either its too heavy or  I get the wrong color match.  It photographs quite well too which is important to me.
  • I seriously keep meaning to try milk of magnesia since aghouston always recommends it.

I rarely wear foundation, but I have Laura Mercier Oil Free foundation. It's a sheer liquid. I believe it retails around $45, but I had a Sephora $15 off coupon when I bought it.

I also used to use Urban Decay Surreal Skin mineral makeup ($30). Unfortunately, I find that powders make my pores look bigger, so that's why I switched to liquid.
  • I'm telling you leila, best product ever. You have to play around with the amount you use when applying, and whether you put it on before or after moisturizer, but after you figure out what works best with it. Its AMAZING!

  • I wear L'oreal true match foundation (liquid).  Oh, and FYI, Both of Clinique's foundations called "Even Better" or "Perfectly Real" are liquid foundations (not powder foundations).   I'm buying the medium coverage one (and getting color matched again) in late June, right before the wedding, since I'm DIYing but want to use a higher grade foundation and eye shadow (etc) for the wedding look. :-)

  • I use the Mary Kay minerals and medium liquid foundations. They are around $15 if you get the basic ones (not the anti-aging ones). I have super-oily skin and I don't get shiny until after I don the welding helmet =p but that's different...

You can get oil-absorbing tissues for around $5 at walgreens as well. I think they are either from Biore or Clean and Clear. They look like mini kleenex packs and you just dab and go. Nice for the summer months :-)

  • Another BareMinerals user here. I have super oily skin and it never makes me shiney or cakey. I barely break out with it, also.
  • BareMinerals. I hate liquid foundations for everyday use.
  • Thanks for all the responses ladies! Some of these brands I've heard of, some I haven't. I'm planning on going to Macy's and Ulta to talk to the sales people there too, so I will take all of your suggestions with me.
