Creative guestbook ideas??

Hello,
FI wants a plain book to store away after the wedding in a box, I want someting creative to display in our home.

Any creative ideas (maybe something music themed since we are music teachers)? I'm hoping I can convince him if I can find a few really cool ideas.

Thanks everyone!

  • I wanted something we could actually use, so I bought terra cotta pots and had guests sign them. We grow herbs in them on our windowsill. I was worried no one would sign them, but at the end of the night they were covered with brief messages!

  • We had guests sign and write messages on river rocks, and we keep them in a vase in our home.

  • We got a perpetual calendar (one which simply has the months and numbers for the days, rather than a year calendar where the dates are matched up with their day in the week) and are planning on asking people to find their birthday and write their names in. We can then hang it and not forget any birthdays as well. I bet you could find one with a music theme if you looked.

OR, one thing that popped to mind while typing, have you considered having people sign manuscript paper? Then you could frame it/use the paper to make some art piece and hang that in your home.

  • Love this idea, thinking about doing the same. It's also a great way to show engagement photos to those who haven't seen them.

[QUOTE]We made a shutterfly book with our engagement pics.  Guests signed that, and we have the book above our mantle right now.

I also plan on using my engagement pictures to create a book for people to sign.
  • What if you framed the sheet music to your first dance in one of those large mats that people signed? You might need to have the mat custom cut so the opening worked for the size of the sheet.

  • We're having our guests write on the back of origami paper then folding cranes from the paper to string above our shrine at home.

  • We are having our guests sign and write their well wishes on cardstock cut into the shape of wine bottles, our wedding has a wine theme. After the wedding I am planning on putting them in large frames along with some of the wine corks from our reception and they will be hung up in our kitchen or dining room! You could do something similar, but maybe in the shape of music notes!

  • For us, FI is a big baseball fan and wanted to incorporate it into the wedding. As a comromise, we are doing a baseball engagement session and our guestbook is a baseball jersey with our name on it that guests will sign and we will frame.

I think if music is your big thing, I like the sheet music idea (maybe sheet music from your first dance?) or what about a record? They sell record frames.

I bet you could have something printed that looks like a record cover but has your info too.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.
  • As others have suggested, finding something that you'll actually appreciate several years down the road might be the best investment for you. When I got engaged, I asked many of my married friends what they wish they had skipped in their wedding planning - and across the board, they all wish they'd skipped the guest book (or variation thereof), because so few people signed it and because they haven't looked at it since - or they've taken it down.

    This is a fantastic idea!

We love to travel, so we found a substantially sized map on Amazon, bought push pins in our wedding colors, sheets of cork and plain white business cards.

The plan is to mat the map onto the cork, then have everyone write their well wishes along with their favorite destination, pin it onto the map and we will shadow-box it after the wedding. We can add to it as we go places.
  • A large wooden initial of your last name to hang in your home.
  • We bought two 18" letters (our initials) from Hobby Lobby for guests to sign.  We plan to hang them in our bedroom.

  • I actually got this one from Etsy:

We had personalized notebooks that also served double duty as table numbers.

Each notebook had a question on it for guests to answer.  The questions were along the lines of: "Where do you see us in 5 years?"  "What is your favorite memory of us?" etc.

The responses were lovely, and much more compelling to go back through than just a list of names.  They are precious memories for certain!

Here is a picture of the concept (not our notebooks though, this is hilariously foo foo)

  • Our first date was to the Museum of Fine Arts so I thinking of getting their coffee table book to use as a guestbook.

  • I also was thinking about doing a Shutterfky book, but they are a bit expensive for the product and I didn't really like the themes. Martha Steward has some great ideas on her website. I'm thinking of taking the engagement pictures and sticking them to a simple, classic scrapbook. and then provide cut card stock to let guests tape messages to the pages.
    Here are some cute ideas:
  • I had a puzzle made with one of our engagment photos on it. Were having our guests sign the back.
  • My gosh, we're having several.

At the ceremony we're having a mounted picture frame with an engagement photo for guests to sign and a bible for the guests to highlight their favorite verse

At the reception, we will have the picture frame again and a shutterfly book of engagement photos.

We are also having a photobooth and a strip from each session goes into a scrapbook and guests can sign it if they want

Training to be the next companion.

  • A friend of mine had one of those thumb print canvases where guests inked their thumbs onto a print of tree at the reception and had a regular book for people to sign at the ceremony.  This way they had something decorative and had a list of names of everyone who came to the wedding.  She has the print framed and hanging in her living room.

We're more picture people, so we've decided on the polaroid/scrapbook idea.
  • Another really cool idea is setting up a photo booth with an instant camera and having the guests take a photo of themselves and then sign it.
  • Check out www.guestbookstore.com. Really creative guestbooks that are interactive with guests!
  • We had a photo book created thru Shutterfly also. Turned out great!!  Our ceremony & reception are casual, so this should work out well.  Its kind of like a year book, so I'm sure people will just pass it around during the reception. We are getting married in 53 days....
  • I ordered a 3 ring book with a cover that I liked and ordered the paper I wanted to put into it. I hired out a photo booth for my reception, so guests can have instant pictures to take home after the wedding. They will be given a couple of copies, so I'm asking that they paste one photo from the photo booth into the book and write their names and a message in it.

A little twist from the traditional. Nothing fancy.

  • We bought a large number of vintage postcards of Maine, where our wedding is, and an old post mailbox on eBay. We're setting the postcards up on a small easel next to the mailbox with a note that says, "write us a note and drop it in the mail!" so that people can leave true "messages" as opposed to just their names.
"I finally realized that I didn't want to live in world that you weren't a part of. And that was hard to admit to myself, and not just because it ends in a preposition." Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Thanks to pinterest, we are having guests sign wine bottles, which we will open on our anniversaries!
  • Ours is being worked to put our names and wedding date in as well as a few more animals in it. But the guests will put their thumbprint on it and sign their names. We are having it framed and hung in our home. :)

I like the sheet music idea.  I'd find the sheet music to your first dance and have that framed with matting around the edges and let individuals sign that.  You can hang it in your bedroom/office.
