Wedding Invitations & Paper

Looking for affordable invites and some questions about inserts

The look of our invites isn't very important to me (most of our guests will trash them anyway) so I would be perfectly happy going with simple (and cheap) vistaprint invitations and put that money into something else.  But my fiance really wants them to be a bit fancier, so I'm looking into the best way to go.  I've been thinking of doing the DIY thing, but first I'm curious if anyone can recommend an affordable (and good quality) company I can try.  Fiance really wants the layered look for the 3D effect, and heavy card stock.  He loves raised letters, but that's not a must.  Other than that, we just want simple and elegant.  Any suggestions?

I've also got some questions about inserts.  At first I was thinking we could avoid any, but now I think we might need a few.  The RSVPs will all be online on our website, but is it ok to print that on the invite or do I need to include an insert that says it?  Our reception is at a different location about five minutes from the ceremony venue.  Can I print the reception location on the main invite or do I have to include a reception card?  I should say that we're not going for a very formal wedding, and all our guests are just as laid back as we are.  Thanks for the advice.

  • Try Michaels.  I got mine there and its a beautiful look.
  • I got my invites from Julie Hanan Design and they turned out amazing!  She designed custom invitations for us and her pricing is VERY reasonable for custom things... I priced things out in stores and books and they ranged anywhere from $4-10 per invite.

I just sent them out a few weeks ago and have been receiving so many great reviews about how great the invitations are!

I wouldn't suggest doing the DIY thing because if people see a cheap invitation, they aren't going to look forward to coming to your wedding. You can pay nearly the same price for a unique/custom invitation that fits with your theme once you include all the paper/printing/envelopes etc...

As far as pricing, I know she works around any price.. we paid about $3.50-$4.00 each. You can check her website out at www.juliehanan.com to see her work.

    Good luck!
  • Paperandmore.com has really affordable paper. You can order paper (80#) and print them out yourself and trim them with a scrapbook trimmer, then order some brightly colored cardstock in a heavier weight and glue the paper on the cardstock for an affordable layered look. Paperandmore.com will even trim the cardstock for you for $5. Get some paper & cardstock in a metalic (has a subtle shimmer to them) and that should be nice and fancy (and affordable).
  • I am also on a budget for my invites.  I bought my dress at David's Bridal so they gave me a coupon for the invites, but the only thing we are ordering other than the invites are the RSVP cards.  One of my friends got married this summer and in their invites they had a page about the size of the invite and also an insert for a church bullentin.  On one side were the addresses and directions from the church to reception venue.  On the other side, hotel accomodations were listed and their registries.  We thought it was such a great idea that we are doing the same :) Hope this helps :)
