Re: WPBP of the day

  • What is something you are doing/did to save money for the wedding? We bought our favors at Michaels because they were cheaper than any site. Then my mom would go to Michaels and buy then with 40% or 50% coupons, making them so CHEAP! That was one thing we did.
What is something you're skipping? We skipped the receiving line. We also skipped both tosses.
Are you having signature drinks? We did. 4 champagne drinks. However, the bar managed to screw up one of the recipes, so I think we only really had 3. But I saw almost everyone in the ballroom with the rockcandy blue one (something blue).
How important is the cake to you?The taste was super important to ME, because I have a huge sweet tooth. But the look was not a huge factor for me.

  • What is something you are doing/did to save money for the wedding? We changed the date from a Saturday to a Friday.  It cut our reception hall bill by 50%.

What is something you're skipping? The limo and/or transportation to and from the wedding.  The reception hall is 100 feet from the church.  If it rains, my father's already volunteered to drive me to the wedding, and my BMs said they'd just drive as well.

Are you having signature drinks? Nope.

How important is the cake to you? The cake is included in the cost of our reception hall, so it's not something I've thought too much about.  I'm excited about it, but I wouldn't say it's necessarily important...

  • What is something you are doing/did to save money for the wedding? Aside from praying to my bank account, I budget regiliously.

What is something you're skipping? First dances, speeches, bouquet toss, garter toss...

Are you having signature drinks? We were going to have a cocktail party for our at home reception - a signature drink actually sounds cute.

How important is the cake to you? I looove cake: chocolate or red velvet with cream cheese icing.  It really is the best and only cake around.

What is something you are doing/did to save money for the wedding?   FI wants to DIY the invitations, programs, etc.  Basically if it's made of paper, we're not paying someone to do it.

What is something you're skipping?   The receiving line.  I hate waiting in lines; why would I make my guests do it?

Are you having signature drinks?   We have a martini station included in our package and they said we'd be able to pick a signature martini for it, so I think we'll probably do something like that.  I wanted something in bright yellow, but it gave my mom some unpleasant associations....we'll see.

How important is the cake to you?  Not very.  FI hates cake and doesn't eat flour anyway, so it's really just an edible decoration.  I've been thinking I want to surprise him with an ice cream groom's cake though.  That's important to me because it will make him really happy. :)

  • What is something you are doing/did to save money for the wedding? Our wedding is on Sunday (of 4th of July weekend), so that's a big savings.  The people who are doing our ceremony music and our flowers are close family friends, so hopefully that will also save some money. :-)

What is something you're skipping?  I'm not sure yet--but the things that are most likely to be skipped are the receiving line and tosses.

Are you having signature drinks?  I'd like to--I saw an easy recipe on here for pink lemonade with vodka and club soda (and maybe mint?) and I really like that for a summer wedding.

How important is the cake to you?  I just want chocolate.  Other than that, I'm not too hung up on it.
  • What is something you are doing/did to save money for the wedding?
We're getting married the week before Christmas.  Our reception venue will already be very decorated for the holidays, so we only need to do very minimal centerpieces.

    What is something you're skipping?
FG and RB, full bridal party intros (just us), garter toss (hopefully)

    Are you having signature drinks?
    No

How important is the cake to you?
It's important to me to have a cake (as opposed to something like a cupcake tower).  I want it to look pretty and taste good, but it doesn't need to be a very elaborate design or be the most gourmet cake with 10 different flavors.

  • SAving Money? I designed my own invitations and I am printing my own table numbers, programs, place cards, etc.  I was also a floral designer at my first job. I'm having my floral designer friend do the flowers at a huge discount. I also knew the perfect band for the wedding so we got a GREAT deal on that.

    Skipping?
The father/daughter dance. My dad and I aren't close so I'm skipping that all together. Also the video of the wedding. I just don't have the money for it.

    Signature Drinks?
FI and I were both bartenders in college. Most of our friends were too. I would love to do a signature drink but the budget would completely die!

    Cake?
It is more important to my FI. I could care less becuase I don't love cake so much but he wants a good one. My aunt does wedding cakes for a living and our gift is our wedding cake. I guess that could go in the money saving question.

  • What is something you are doing/did to save money for the wedding?  The biggest thing was cutting the guest list from about 175 to about 40.

What is something you're skipping?  Tosses, dancing, receiving line.  We're cutting and serving the cake ourselves instead of the receiving line.

Are you having signature drinks?  Hopefully.  If we have enough declines, I should be able to upgrade the bar to include a chocolate martini (my favorite) and a Vesper martini (his favorite).  I probably won't finalize that until the headcount is due.

How important is the cake to you?  Oh, the cake.  This is a three-pronged question for me:

    1) Reception: No cake.  We're doing cookie cakes from the mall in tiers, and we'll have other dessert as well.  FI was adamant about not having cake (because he wanted to do something different, and because of the joke that the one food that can kill a woman's sex drive is wedding cake), so it was important to have something different that still looks somewhat like a wedding cake.

    2) Rehearsal: My wedding is two days after my brother and sister's birthday, and one day after MOH's.  So at the rehearsal lunch, I really want to have a birthday cake.  If budget permits, it will be ice cream cake.

    3) AHR: I want to have a more standard looking cake for this one, but we still want it to be simple and tasty.  I think we're going with a small two-tier cake and sheet cakes from King's Hawaiian.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • What is something you are doing/did to save money for the wedding?
Our biggest money-saver was our venue. We paid $100 pp, but they literally took care of almost everything for us, the really big things being the DJ, Photog, centerpieces, and the cake. So we didn't have to go out and pay extra for those particular things, which was awesome.

What is something you're skipping? We skipped the tosses. We also skipped STDs. Honestly, nobody I know has ever done STDs, so even if we had booked a year in advanced like normal people, I doubt we would have bothered with them

Are you having signature drinks? No, our venue gave us full open bar in our package, that was more than good enough for us. Like STDs, we don't really know anybody who's done signarture drinks (Even our one friends that did it, it wasn't anything special, more like "Ok, we have beer and wine, and if you don't like those we have a few cocktail options"), so it didn't seem like a big deal to us.

How important is the cake to you?  It was pretty important. I've been to weddings where the cake was gorgeous and tasted awful, others where it looked "ok" but tasted great. I really wanted the best of both worlds, and imo, that's exactly what we got Smile
