Sunscreen and your wedding dress

Hey ladies,

I am a very pasty-white girl who gets sunburned by being outside for short periods of time.  (Darn Irish skin!).  Ironically, I am getting hitched outside at a botanical gardens in two weeks.  I would like to use sunblock so I am not burnt to a crisp after taking pictures/having the ceremony outside.  Do you think the sunscreen will stain my dress?  Any recommendations on sunscreens that will not stain?

TIA!

Re: Sunscreen and your wedding dress

  • I would just make sure you put it on 30 minutes before you put your dress on so it has time to dry.

  • Ditto pp. As long as it is absorbed, I don't think it will stain your dress. Also, if you get it cleaned right away, they should be able to get most everything out that does get on your dress ie: grass stain, etc.
  • also try to get one that is fragence free so you don't smell too sunblocky : )
  • this is all great advice (i'm getting married on the beach and happen to be as white as this background)
Thank you hillacon for asking this!

judge the non-traditional, pop their happy little wedding balloons... and sleep better tonight for you have made the world a better place.
  • I would think the spray-on stuff would be less likely to stain.  Agreed that you should put it on as early as you can so that it has a chance to fully dry.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • The sunscreens for sensitive skin/oil free are less likely to damage the dress cause of the lack of oils like a nutrogena product... but defintely make sure it has time to dry before!
  • I would suggest doing a photo test first.  Some sunscreens can make your skin look odd in photos, even if it's not visible to the naked eye.

  • I actually work for a company that makes and tests industrial laundry products and sunscreen stains are a huge concern right now.  The active ingredients in most sunscreens will leave stains on any white fabric (think cruise ship and resort towels) and will turn bright yellow when washed.  One of the few sunscreens I've tested that doesn't have the staining active ingredients is Water Babies.  It's specifically formulated for more sensitive skin and contains alternative active ingredients.
