wedding theme?

Some of my vendors have been asking what my wedding theme or style is and I had no idea that such a thing really existed as far as a wedding theme? What is this theme based on? I just thought a wedding was a wedding HELP!!!

Re: wedding theme?

  • My wedding doesn't have a theme so I guess I cannot really help, why does it matter I wonder?

  • My theme is "I'm getting married, and you're all invited to a party to celebrate the fact that someone is voluntarily deciding to spend the rest of their life with me".
  • If you don't have a theme, you could indicate your color scheme and the feel you're going for (formal, casual, vintage, rustic, glitzy, etc.).

If vendors are asking I would think they are looking for your color choices, what type of food you are serving, formal or informal. Stuff like that.

Our DJ/ MC asked if we wanted him to wear a suit or a tux. Same with the officiant.

  • Undecided   I most definitely made one of these faces!!! I told them our colors and the name of our reception hall and then I said it's just going to be a wedding um like a traditional one...

  • "Marriage"  (That having been said, our colors are pink and green, outdoors, fairly casual with a wine country menu.)

  • Traditional is sort of a theme. I think vibe is probably the word they should have used though.

[QUOTE]If you are using certain colors, just tell your vendors what they are when they ask. I don't think it's an odd question at all. Theme doesn't have to mean balls to the walls Disney decor.    They are probably just trying to figure out what type of wedding you are having so they can better fit your needs.

I feel like I am always saying Ditto Duds

But seriously, it's not an odd question - it's just worded wrong.  "What is the theme of your wedding" really means "What kind of feel/atmosphere are you going for? Formal v. casual? What are your colors, etc.?"  People automatically associate "theme wedding" with really obnoxious decor and that usually isn't the case.

For example, my "theme" (I guess you would call it) is casual and rustic.  We're having our reception in a barn. That's the FEEL we're going for.  But that doesn't mean we're having a full-blown hoe down.
  • I'm assuming they are asking to get a better vibe/style of your wedding.  There are so many styles, if they know what you like they can help you better.  I myself have a mixture since I like so many styles.  I love classic, nature, bohemian, and diy.
