Do women ring the SA bells?

I know this is an odd question. I don't think I have seen a woman do this. I need to put in volunteer time. I am having a hard time finding things to volunteer to. My H doesn't want me to volunteer at the homeless shelter because it's in a bad part of town.

Re: Do women ring the SA bells?

  • Yep.  I saw a woman ringing at Wal-Mart yesterday actually.  I've seen them other places too, it's definitely not out of the ordinary.
  • Yeah, they let just about anyone do it, or at least they used to.  My girl scout troop used to do it, way back in the day.
  • Huh, I've only seen women doing it around here this year come to think of it.

Huh, well I have only seen men do it in my area.

  • I am doing it, hopefully, Sarah. I just contacted someone but got his voicemail. Hopefully he will call me back! I will post a picture too!

  • When I was in Jr & Sr High School a girl's group I belonged to rang the bells every year as a community service project. None of us belonged to or attended the SA but we rang their bells.

    Some other volunteer opportunities:

Read out loud/do arts/crafts at the local nursing home/hospital/children's cancer ward.

Volunteer at the library for kids story time, or putting books away, or at a school.

    Animal Humane Society.

Food Bank-- may not necessarily be in the same place as the homeless shelter.

    Clean up a park/woods area/playground.

There are lots and lots and lots of places to get community service hours. Find something that appeals to you and your passions and ask if you can volunteer.

Edit: The best part is you can do these year round and stay warm in the winter or cool in the summer .
  • Yep, there was a woman SA bell ringer at one of the wal-marts last weekend. First one i've ever seen though.
