Butter Pecan cake?

We are serving cheesecake and butter pecan cake. Butter Pecan is my favorite, but I'm second guessing my choice. My fear is that a lot of people will opt for the cheesecake leaving us with a bunch of cake left over and not enough cheesecake. So, my questions is, do you like butter pecan?  If you had a choice between the two, would you pick the cheesecake or butter pecan cake? Should I go with a more universal flavor like white cake? Thanks!

Re: Butter Pecan cake?

  • I have never had butter pecan cake. I would choice it b/c it is different.

  • FI and I actually LOVED the butter pecan our baker made for us to taste different flavors.  We wanted to have it, but it boiled down to having a more "universally" liked flavor as we were only doing one flavor for the whole cake.

Maybe you can have a small tier as butter pecan? Or maybe have that flavor another time, but I think you may be safer with a cake without nuts.

FWIW, we decided on cinnamon-vanilla as our flavor.

i absolutely absolutely love butter pecan!

and why can't everyone get a half a slice of each on their plate that way they get both amazing flavors!

  • Butter pecan is probably okay, but I would definitely choose cheesecake given the option.

  • Cheesecake. I can't stand pecans.
  • My fear with having a pecan cake would be having someone with a nut alergy as a guest.  Sometimes smells can trigger reactions.

  • I LOVE butter pecan cake. But would be worried about nut allergies. Maybe have a small layer for you two & some select VIPs
  • Being mindful of nut allergies is very wise.  And remember - you are eating one piece and you should make sure what you serve appeals to the masses who are eating all the rest - not just you and FI.

To answer your question - I do enjoy BP cake, but I would most likely choose the cheesecake.
  • for  our cake we ordered one tier white cake with choc buttercream, another white with vanilla buttercream, then a sheet cake done half red velvet and half german choc. so we have the "norms" then we have a couple fun flavors. the sheet cake /grooms cake is an idea for your butterpecan cake just let guests know and keep it away from the other so no cross contaiminaton can happen , also let me just say i work for allergiest snd yes people do have reactions just coming in contact of any kind with nuts , but if most are knowledgable they will have their epi pen which is a standard norm if they have been diagnosed with nut allergies.

  • As one of those people with severe nut allergies, just having foods containing nuts "breathing the same air" or touching (or even using the same utensil) can trigger an allergic reaction. Yes, I carry my epi-pen in my purse at all times, and yes, everyone knows how to administer the medicine. However, do you REALLY want people being rushed to the emergency room from your wedding? I know from personal experience that it is a definite probability.

That being said - if you are having a small wedding and know for certain that nobody has a nut allergy...enjoy!!
