Honeymoon Tradition?

I was just informed that it is customary for the Bridal Party to come to the Wedded couples hotel room and "Re-decorate" with Streamers and whatever else that seems fit.

I have never heard of this tradition anyone else?

YOU and you FI choose what traditions you want.

If there's anything I've learned from these boards it's that there's a group who think that they have it firgured out. They can't stand the thought of there being cultural differences, or even people doing things that may be *gasp* against etiquette to appease family members.

If you like it- do it.

If you hate it- don't do it.

I have heard of this being done as a prank and someitmes a prank gone too far. I would not tell anyone who had this idea where I would be staying!

A few of our friends managed to get into our hotel room and trashed the place, and left condoms and sex toys everywhere. They did clean up their mess after they took pictures, but left the condoms and sex toys. Had they left our room trashed, I'm pretty sure I'd have killed somebody.

unfortunately, the people that told me this had first asked my FH and I where we would be staying before they told us about the odd tradition. Luckily, we will be staying in separate hotel rooms where we are getting married. My aunt seems to think she has the connections to gain entry into the rooms... I doubt this.

Not a big deal, just wanted to get other Knottie's opinions, on this strange tradition.

I've heard of it, and I think it's juvenile. Seems like something teenagers would do. Let's put condoms all over your room...giggle giggle.

I've heard of it being decorated with like flower petals, champagne and candles... that's about it.

When my friends got married a couple years ago, as their wedding presents I paid for their hotel rooms for the night of the weddings. Since I was paying I did get the key given to me and I put a bottle of wine and 2 wine glasses in the rooms as well as putting rose petals on the beds. The only "Oh I can't believe they did this" was that I put in flavored lube in the rooms too.

OP, If you are concerned about people getting a key to your hotel room, tell the desk clerk that you don't want people to know you're staying at the hotel and that if people ask to not give out your room number(which they shouldn't do anyways) nor to transfere anyone to your room via the phone switchboard. I would also tell the desk clerk that under no circumstances should anyone get a key to your room unless it is you or H and to request picture ID for anyone asking for a key. That way, if you aunt came to the desk and said she was you and asked for a key, she would have to produce picture ID showing that her name and your name match and your address on the ID matches the address given to the hotel.

My MOH and another bridesmaid gained access to our wedding night hotel room and left us wine and snacks- a perfect wedding night gift for after a long night of dancing and wanting to settle down into the hot tub.

But, I could easily see it turning and getting out of hand had it been the guys who left us 'gifts'.

My hairdresser is Portuguese; and apparently this is a huge tradition in her region of Portugal.

They go to the couples home (or whereever they are staying do all sorts of tricks and things. She told me of one where they hid alarm clocks all over the house set at each hour. I didn't get the impression that it was every "dirty" - i.e. sex toys, condoms. Just pranks.

I've never heard of anyone doing it here though.

I would speak to your hotel now and make sure they understand that you will hold them liable if they let anyone into your room. I would put the hammer on this one now.

Unfortunately it's not an uncommon tradition. There were some rumors before our wedding that some of our friends wanted to do the whole practical joke thing with our honeymoon suite.

I pulled my MOH aside before the wedding and told her that I would really appreciate it if she could spread the word that it would be extremely unwelcome, and that we will be letting the hotel know not to let anyone in our room under any circumstance.

Our room was pristine and so nice and relaxing after all the hubub of the wedding.

Come to think about it my landlady let herself into our house and decorated our bedroom because we were coming home that night. She tied just married baloons to our bed and put a just married sign up. Nothing bad. I was shocked but thought it was sweet.

In spain (my country) it's a popular tradition to do pranks to the married couple.

Most of them are rude and tacky such as putting rice or other objects under the sheets (when they have time they even sew macaronni) or filling the floor with glasses so they can't walk.

Let them know how angry you will be and say them you don't find them funny at all, but deffinitly take care. They can ruin a perfect night.

I emailed the Event Planner we have been working with; giving her a heads-up and she was going to put a note in the computer about not giving out phone number or room number. I have told her that we had hundreds of dollars in attire & jewelry alone.
