PSA: Space Bags for your Wedding Dress PIP

I was really hoping for a solution to shipping my dress, and carrying it on as-is (as you can see in my sig, it's huge).

So I talked to the owner of the shop I bought my gown at, and I asked about using a Space Bag to shrink the size of the carry-on, to make it more manageable. She said it would work fine, especially if I had plans to get the dress steamed anyways...

I tried it out tonight with my crinoline---and it worked wonders!!!

For $12, I got two extra-large Space Bags at Target----and it will save me shipping costs two and from Vegas.

Hope this tips helps you guys too!

hahah--yea! I just folded up my crinoline, and shoved it in the bag, and vacuumed out the air. Works perfectly.
great idea! but what about getting it home?
    Posted by sparks_melissa
I've thought about this---and initially, I thought I would ship it home (afterall, if it doesn't make it home in time, no worries!)---but, as long as I can call the hotel's housekeeping--and ask them to bring up a vacuum, I can just place it back in the bag...I hope.

When I packed my dress, I didn't need a space bag. I just used a tip from a packing site and used the bridal bag.
Fold from the bottom and squeeze out the air as you do each fold. I believe i folded three times.
The air goes out of the bag at the top.
If you do decide to use a vacuum bag, you can do the same thing with them. It does say on the box that you can vacuum or squeeze out the air so there is no need to track down housekeeping.
Packing the crinolne was a little more tricky. That thing wanted to stay poofy no matter what! I did also pay the extra little bit of amount to have my crinoline steamed by Debi at Fit for a Bride as well.
