My wedding ceremony site fits 75 chairs, it can hold up to 150 people but my guest list keeps getting bigger and bigger. I'm wondering if it's rude to only invite a certain amount of people to the wedding and then have the rest of the people who didn't come to the wedding ceremony come to the reception? How do I address that? What would I write on the invitations? Any suggestions are helpful! Thanks everyone! Laughing

    Yes.  Unless your ceremony is VERY small (as in, immediate family only) this is rude.  Either cut your guest list, or find a new ceremony venue.

    I don't think its nice to not allow people to the ceremony.  From what I am used to, its the other way around - anyone and everyone can come to the ceremony, but the reception needs an invite.  I think you need to work on changing your guest list a bit or finding a new venue if it can't accomodate your guest list.

    My suggestion is to find a new venue or cut your guest list.  The reception is to thank your guests for coming to witness your ceremony.  If you don't invite them to the wedding, they don't come to the reception.

    Agreed with PPs.  All of the guests need to be invited to both ceremony and reception.  The only exception is a very small, immediate family only ceremony.  Even if it holds up to 150 people, you should still only invite how many people can be seated ,which would be 75. 

    What kind of ceremony venue is it?  Can you rent extra chairs for it?

    Cut the guest list, get more chairs or choose a different place.

    It only works if you limit the ceremony to just WP and immediate family (as in, parents and siblings only), but even then, expect some hurt feelings.  I would cut your guest list or find a new venue.

    Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
