Problem area...THIGHS

Hi everyone.

I'm relatively skinny, but have recently begun working out using p90x (been doing it about 3 or 4 weeks fairly consistently) and have switched to lean meats and whole grains. I've actually lost about 7 pounds so far, but I haven't noticed ANY improvement in my thighs...they're my problem area. I have a flat belly, slim arms, but my thighs remain untoned! Its extremely aggravating.

I'm going to Hawaii in mid January with my family, and I bought a new bathing suit. I'm happy from waist up...but my thighs...not so much. Does anyone have any tips about how to tone thighs quickly?

  • There is really no way to just tone or lose weight in a specific area. Most people have an area where the weight comes off last. Mine is my tummy.

Are you weight training? The more muscle you build, especially the larger muscles in the body, the more calories you burn. You can try doing squats and lunges to help build leg muscles, which in turn will burn calories & fat.

Ditto. Just keep losing the weight, and it will eventually come off your thighs. Pinkie promise.

  • Running, lunges, and squats. It takes a little time to see results, but once it's there it takes a long time to go away.
  • Take measurements- sometimes its hard to tell by just looking.
  • Also keep genetics in mind. I am fit but I will never have "thin" legs-no one in my family does.

  • I agree with many of the above posts. "Spot training" is a myth; no workout can guarantee thighs of steel! Strength training is key, but when I used to be young and slim, I was never in better shape than when I did yoga regularly. I developed great muscle tone with yoga. I have heard similar things about Pilates. If you don't have time or money to shell out for the classes, there are plenty of videos you could try. I have developed a habit of previewing before I buy, either on Youtube or Netflix. See if you like it before you invest! Good luck!
