Married Ladies...

I've got a question for you...What were your contracted hours with your Photographer?

Just asking because mine (knottie reccomended) was telling us that after cake cutting no pics are really taken (professional) unless we wanted him to stay an extra hour it was up to us. Our reception hours are 6-12am so we contracted the photographer so far (I can change this if I want) from 2pm-11pm. He is coming to my house at 2pm for pre-ceremony pictures. Do you think we need him after cake cutting or do you think all the good pics we "need" we be taken before and during cake cutting? :)

Just want to add that having him come at 2pm is already considered an "extra" hour. I love our Photographer, just wanted to get some insight from you girls who have been trhough it already :)

Thanks :)

Our ceremony was at 4 and our reception was 6-11.  The photographer was at my parent's house at 1 or 2 and they stayed at the reception until 10:30

our photographer left about an hour before the reception ended, just after the cake cutting. once the cake is cut the party is pretty much over and unless there's something specific you want from them, there's not a whole lot of pictures for them to take.

Our photographer was there until the very end.  Some of my favorite pictures of the reception are during the last song it was my immediate family, DH's immediate family, and some of the bridal party dancing and having fun and the pictures really captured it.

It all depends on your photographer and how they work.

Some stay until the very end, some leave when the big stuff is done.

Mine came an hour and a half before our ceremony for getting ready shots and left after the anniversary dance, which was 25 minutes before our reception ended. In pictures it's not noticeable, but it is noticeable in video.

But our pictures and video came out fine. So it's not really an issue.

I asked my sister (whose video I love), Her video and photog stayed until the very end. So her video has the complete end of her reception, but when I asked about her photo proofs, she said her person took about a dozen dancing pictures after the cake. So, there wasn't much after the cake pictures.

Regardless, make sure you love your photographer. And that you trust their work and skill. That's the important part. They are professionals, so they know what they are doing, so trust them.

If, like pp said, you have something special after cake cutting, let them know and more than likely they will stay for that.

    Good luck!

We had our photographer from 11-11, and our reception ended at 12. There really wasn't anything going on after the cake cutting so it would have just been more pictures of everyone dancing.

Thanks girls, I LOVE my photographer and I trust him 100% I am sooo excited to work with him...it's Nick Carter :) I was so excited to meet him when we went in for our first meeting. I know it's all going to be great...it was just something I started thinking about because I went to 5 Weddings this year and I was thinking to myself "hmm, did I see the photographer torwards the end?"

A few weddings I went to had cake cutting early in the night, and some later...so I guess everywhere is a little different. I think our videographer will be there til the end though!

We had our photographer there for 10 hours -- 12:30 to 10:30. She didn't miss a beat and got shots of everything. We knew this is what we wanted, so we contracted for it.

So I'm not married... but I struggled with this same idea. When we added up the time we wanted the photographers to come, it was about 9 hours. Her package went until 8 hours, and it would have been additional $ to stay that extra hour. She also said to us, that not much happens in that last hour, but my thinking is that if something does happen, I would kick myself for letting her leave. And in the end, after all is set and done, after the event all you have is the video/ pics & your memories. It irked me as well, thinking that my photographer was "on the clock." I wanted the photographer to stay the entire event and capture all the memories on my special day.

Solution: We shopped around, found other photographers that were willing to stay the entire event, from the moment we wanted them to come to the very end. We went back to the photographer who we really liked and explained how competitors are willing to stay the entire time, are you willing to do the same for us?  In the end she agreed, which really made sense for her. Over a couple of hundred dollars, it didn't make sense for her to loose the job. My suggestion for you, is to do the same, if it matters. Some people may not care if the photographer leaves. Just make sure that if you want him/ her to stay for your wedding, that you make it happen. Don't let someone else tell you how much/ little time your photographer should stay.

Just make sure that if they say they will stay, that they will in fact actually stay.

Because, trust me, if they say they will stay, and they don't stay, it will bother you. and you won't forget it.

I'm not married but I have spoken with many photographers and one guy said it very well. He said that he doesn't usually stay until the very end of receptions because drunk people do not photograph well. He explained that he tries to get all the shots of family and friends in the earlier hours of the reception bc you may not always want to remember "uncle john" glassy-eyed and disheveled after he had been partying all night.

Our photographer is contracted from 1PM to 2AM - all of our family and bridal party shots will be done prior to the wedding. The ceremony is at 7 and the reception ends at 2:30AM.
