I just got blood on my dress =o

  So I was just trying on my gown and didn't realize my finger was bleeding just a little. When I pulled off the dress, I notice a couple small blood smears on the back. What should I do? Dab at it with water right now, or get it cleaned by a pro right away?

Where do you gat a gown cleaned at? Would a good dry cleaners work?Does anyone know *about* how much this little adventure is going to cost?

Thankfully, the gown is ivory so it is not painfully obvious if the stain only fades a bit.

  • First, don't panic.

    Second, are there any tags on the dress that say how to clean it? Try those options.

    Third, call the dress shop and see what they recommend or if they have any ideas on how to clean it.

    If all else fails, call a dry cleaner who is familiar with cleaning wedding gowns and see what they can do for you. I never had my dress clean, so I don't know how much it will cost you.

    Sorry, I hope some of this helps!

  • First, DONT TOUCH IT! Seriously. Don't dab it with water.Don't do anything yourself. Take it to a professional cleaners, someone recommended by your salon for cleaning and or alterations. These people are almost always miracle workers. But they can only do their magic if the stain hasn't set. I remember one horror story. My friend had a wine ceremony at her wedding and spilled an entire glass of red wine down the front of her dress. She rushed to the bathroom, washed it with water - and in doing so, set the stain. There was nothing her cleaners could do. It does depend on the dress, but in all seriousness, spend the money and take it to someone who can work a little magic.
  • Don't touch it or use anything on it but get it to the cleaners ASAP. I wouldn't use anything on it or use water (bc it will set the stain) until you hear from a professional what is best on the fabric, etc of your dress.
  • I agree! Call the dress store and see what they recommend, maybe they can take care of it for you. And be careful trying it on next time..I dont touch mine unless I need to take it out for a fitting at the store.
  • I would take it to a professional to get it cleaned asap - one that specializes in wedding dresses
  • Hey everyone,

        I decided to try a little water on a q-tip for fabric that is hidden to see if the stain would come out. It did. I know I was taking a major chance, but I can't get to the cleaners today. I was trying to avoid the stain setting in. Thankfully, it worked.

    Here is the site I went with on my google search. I would not suggest any bride just  taking a chance based on my situation, but it my case, I decided to take a little risk.

    Thanks for the info everyone!=)
  • You could have also tried Hydrogen peroxide as it takes out blood on anything. But i would have tested a small area on the dress where no one would notice it first.
