Married Ladies: Name Change?

I'm getting confused about the whole name changing process.  I have the original marriage certificate that the pastor filled out for us.  I thought I would just take this to the DMV and SS office to change my name.  But I have a packet of information that came with the marriage certificate from the courthouse and it says I need to order a certified marriage certificate for $25 in order to change my name? 

Can someone clarify this all for me?

    Yes - You need to order the certified marriage cert.  You can either order it and they mail it to you after the wedding, or you can go pick it up at the county courthouse.. But this is 100% what you need to change your name, certified by the court.

    PS - Apparently MOST courts include the fee to have it sent to you after the wedding automatically.. but the one I went to didnt.  So we got home from our honeymoon and I was in the same boat as you, confused as all heck as to where to get the official marriage cert.  :)

    i went to the courthouse in norristown to pick up my certified copy. they only charged me $10, not $25. as soon as i picked up the certified copy, i went straight to the SS office, and then to get my license changed. good luck!

    My certified copy was $10 as well.  SS was easy but I haven't changed my license yet because I got the card to renew it in Sept. I just set away for a new photo card with the correct name.

    I would like to add on to this...

      I have the marriage license and the marriage certificate with me.  However, it looks like something was attatched to the marriage certificate and perhaps the pastor took it.  Any idea what it was?

    the marriage certificate was a three part document. after your wedding, you were supposed to keep the bottom part, the county was supposed to get the middle, and the officiant was supposed to keep the top portion. we had a little incident with ours, so we know! haha! we're lucky our pastor made photo copies of overything before he mailed it to the county, or else we would have had to get married all over again!
