Military Brides

Book Club

Hi everyone!

Our book is BossyPants. It was actually a close race.

Beach and whoever else voted for Summer Sisters- I definitely suggest you read it. It is one of my most favorite books!!

We will discuss the book sometime the first or second week of November.

I'm alright. School is busy. We are telling the staff and parents about me moving in January in 2 weeks. It should be interesting. Our school has really high maintenance parents so people will probably talk about me and spread rumors on facebook!

How long is your H gone for? When are you house hunting? If you need advice on schools in Norfolk, let me know. One of my BMs used to teach there.

It's just one of the pre-deployment underways.  He's been gone for several weeks already, but will be home pretty soon.  Yeah I definitely will be looking to start teaching again once we get there.  I can't wait to get back into it, I miss it so much!

We are going house hunting toward the end of November.  I'm so excited to go and pick out our house!  I look online at the ones from the realtor like everyday, so I just want the trip to be here already!

Have you guys started house hunting for your move yet?

H wants us to live down there a little bit before we buy. But yes, I'm excited to buy. Hopefully we will buy sometime in the summer. I would love to buy right away but I do want to learn about the area first. What did you teach?

I missed the vote, but I will try to get the book and read it. Although I am not quite sure since H and I are on our roadtrip right now and we'll be busy house hunting and getting settled when we get to VA.

Beach, which realtor website have you been looking at? We have been looking at some and making appointments for viewings, I can't wait to see them!

In case anyone is interested, I downloaded Bossypants from this link for free.  It's the PDF version, so you can either read it on your computer, or you can convert the file and send it to your Kindle, which is what I did.

If you want to convert it, download and save it.  Then email to your kindle email with it as an attachment, and put the word "convert" in the subject line of your email.  You have to have your email listed as an approved email in your kindle account, but the whole thing took me like 5 minutes, and is totally worth saving the over $13 for the Kindle book.  Yeah, I'm cheap.  I'm okay with it.

Hike I'm certified in PE and Health.  Since I was the low man on the totem pole in my district I got bounced around a lot, so I've taught high school health, high school PE and elementary PE.

Kara- We're using Coldwell Banker there.  A friend of mine is a realtor through them back at home and she called them to set me up with them so that I knew we wouldn't get screwed around and would get taken care of.

Probably CAB.  Do you have the option to send personal documents to your Nook?  I found all the step by step instructions right on the Kindle website, so you could definitely try looking on there to see.

Ok maybe CAB can give us specifics later, but I downloaded the pdf and checked out the "user guide" on my nook--I think you have to plug it in to your computer, and there are nook download folders on your PC somewhere (will have to invistigate this when I get home). Sounds like once the pdf file is in the correct folder and the nook is connected, it will download into your library. Am I close CAB?

I'm gonna pay for it, mostly cuz I hope to be a published author someday and feel like the arts do get cheated a bit on royalties with stuff like this. No judgement on anyone for getting the PDF, just saying - I feel like I want to give the author (and editor and publisher) their due, even if that costs me $13.

Oh my bad guys! LOL I was baking after this last post! Didn't mean to leave you hanging! Ok, so here's what I did:
Download this onto your computer (You'll have to register, but it's free)
    http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/

Once that's in, make sure to place the book into the program.
Then, connect your Nook to your computer. The Nook will sync to that program. Once it does, Drag the book down to where your Nook shows in the program (left bottom corner.) There should be a green plus sign when you get near it.

Once you've done that, disconnect the Nook (properly, or it may ruin the download.) Get on the Nook and go into Library, then My Files, then Digital editions. and it should be there! HTH!

</div><div>I get that, and I usually always buy my books.  i just happened to google this one because it was so much.  I have a huge problem with the cost of e-books though.  I fully understand people need to get their cut and their royalties, but the fact that sometimes the e-books are just as much as the physical book is just absurd to me.  There is no physical cost to make the book when i buy it, no materials, no shipping, etc.  </div><div>
</div><div>Also, it pisses me off that you can only lend each book once, if even at all.  If I were to go buy the book in the store for maybe an extra couple dollars, if even, I can pass that book around to every single person I know for absolutely free.  But If I pay $10 or more for an e-book, I can MAYBE pass it to 1 person, and that's it.  It's B.S., and I really hope they fix that.  I wouldn't even care if they charged like $1 or $2 to lend the books, but the way the have it now is ridiculous.</div><div>
</div><div>But yeah yeah, I love my Kindle and still use it and still pay for books.

I agree with this... I don't think it's fair to charge someone so much for a digital copy of a book. Anything over $10 bucks is too much IMO... but this is probably the only e book that I've gotten for free. I have always paid for my books, but when the cost is high for a digital book, I'd rather purchase a hard copy of it, or not get it at all.
