What pen/type of pen did you use to address your invitations?

This seems like such a dumb question, but I don't want to use just a plain old ballpoint pen, but the nicer pens that I have seem to smear really easily. What pen or type of pen did you use for invitation addressing? We aren't going to try to do any sort of calligraphy or fake calligraphy - just want to write nicely and have a pen that does not smear easily.

For the record - I am not going to be allowed to touch the pen. my fiance will do all the writing. my writing looks like I write with my feet. So it can't be too girly looking or anything, haha.

    I used a blue Sharpie pen.  I wanted them to stand out a little and it didn't bleed through the paper.

    Now I am going to put the pen with the guestbook.

    Well.... I guess I'm not fancy because we used a ball point pen, but it was in red! It matched our invitations very well. I feel safer with ball point pens because I know they won't smear and my writing looks nicer with it.

    oh my gosh I hadn't even thought of not doing black.  SO MANY DECISIONS haha! ballpoint is probably the safest to keep from smearing....I really don't know what we should use!

    We printed the addresses directly onto the envelopes, so I can't really help. For my shower TYs, I've been using a regular ball point pen, but they're very casual.

    This isn't much help, but I ended up using mail merge and it was the best thing ever.

    I ditto using the Sharpie Pen, love those things and they do not bleed through and they come in like a gazillion colors.

    I agree with mail merge being amazing!  We printed our directly in blue ink and our inner envelopes are printed with Orange.

    I used my normal pens I steal from work - they are regular Sanford Uniball ONYX pens. I stuck with black because it's the most formal.

    Honestly, if your paper is anything like mine, it's MUCH easier to write with these types of pens than with a heavier pen. I even asked my invitation designer, and she agreed. Our invitations were a cotton heavy, formal linen stock and it was really difficult to write with anything other than ballpoint. (I tried with a fine point Sharpie, which turned out poorly.) Plus, you can control what you're writing much better with a finer point and it looks cleaner.

    I will take a picture later of one of the invitations if you'd like to see how they turned out!

    hahaha bridetobe...must you even ask?? of course i would love to see a picture of the finished product!!

    it sounds like regular pen is the way to do. I am glad I asked, because I was totally clueless!

    I received Sakura Micron Pens along with my guestbook puzzle. I could tell right away that they were great pens so I used them for my invitations. My FI, who is very artsy, noticed them and commented that they are high quality pens. 

    They don't bleed or smear and they look great on paper. I think you can buy them at Michael's or any other craft store.  Amazon also sells them.  here's a link

    Do you think these would work on gold foil? I need to find something that will write on our gold doilies for the place settings. The backing is regular paper, but the top is almost like a foil. Here's what I bought:

    I used a ballpoint pen from some hotel.  Not fancy, I know, but it was all I had.

    I had my mother write all mine. She has the most elegant writing and she's lefty which totally blows everyone's mind due to sterotypes.

    I gave her my fabulous pen to use. It didn't smear at all. Uni-ball Gel Grip in black.

    haha I'm boring...I used just a regular pen because I was afraid if I used something else on our metallic envelopes it would smear!

    I used a calligraphy pen from a kit I bought last year.  It's a pain in the ass and my arm hurts from moving the entire arm/hand for each stroke instead of moving my wrist...but I hope it's worth it.  bleh.

    Butterfly - I hope you like them. I really do! I've been using them to write and address shower thank you notes, rehearsal dinner invitations and probably my thank you cards after the wedding too.

    Bride to Be-I'm not sure if they will work on gold foil. I wish I had some gold foil so I could test it out for you. I would pose that question to someone at an art supply store, because they probably know best.
