F/O: New NEY Tradition?

If everyone truly likes the idea of doing our version of the "Knottie Knot" from the Destination Weddings board, we are going to need some volunteers in making a few different ones. Whoever makes it will be the "keeper" until it is needed to be sent to a bride or a person in need of a pick-me-up.

When our first round of "recipients" comes about everyone who wants to participate will send a postcard to the "keeper" with well wishes and advice. Then the keeper adds it to the binder (explained below), sends it to the recipient, then they AW and keep it until it is ready to be sent to the next person.

I was thinking of a binder that can be decorated, added to easily, and hold pictures and postcards. But I welcome different ideas!

I need a couple volunteers..and we need a name! After we come up with the name I will create an e-mail for it that people can send requests for their wedding date and suggestions for people who could use cheered up!

Check out the DW board to read more about theirs if I completely confused the hell out of you :)

  • I think the binder is a great idea! I'm not very creative, so I'll let someone else be in charge of designing/naming, lol. Definitely sounds like fun!

  • I think we should do two versions... one for brides, and one for someone who needs a pick-me-up. If I'm the next one getting married, I'd be happy to write the first postcard, though I'm not very crafty so maybe someone else should 'make' the knot.

Every board has some tradition of a token that send to the next bride getting married.  My hawaii board has a silk parasol that says Maholo and one that says Maui'D on it.  They send them to the next bride so she can use it in her wedding photos if she likes.
  • Sounds interesting!

  • We should get a parasol that says "I'm not MUD!"

In all seriousness, I love this idea! Am I really the next bride? :::oh geez.. deep breath deep breathe...::: Or is there someone before March?

[QUOTE]I don't know if this is a totally stupid idea, but I can make pretty damn cute pillowcases, and it could be cute for the "pick me up" one...somehow everyone could write encouraging messages on fabric with fabric markers, and I could make them into a pillowcase to be sent around to people? I would say a quilt, but a pillow case could be washed, but would be snuggly and comforting...and easy to ship on to the next person.

    Ooor....maybe a stuffed pony:

But...the pillowcase would ship WAY better. Couldn't we make a quilted pillowcase of sorts?

  • I haven't been on the board for long but am guessing that since most of us are in long term relationships, eventually engagements will happen. What if we had one for when people get engaged. Like a congratulations engagement pony type thing.

  • The pony or pillow case is really cute for the pick me up :) I like the idea of having different versions, but we will need at least 2 for getting married because more than one person will get married that day/weekend and it won't get to them in time.

Also, I think we could do the binder and something cute for pictures (like a sign or parasol) so that they can get letters of encouragement but also something for a photo.

I thought of doing this because I'd love to send something to each person who gets married, but this way we can all send it in one collective package!

  • Something that I wanted to do for my wedding was have everyone send some fabric that I could make into a banner to put up at the venue, but I'm not sure how everyone would feel about that, as some people are particular about the look of the wedding.
    ::shrugs:: Just an idea. :)

And there is a possibility it the banners could eventually get a bit worn looking.
I still totally want to do this for my wedding though! ;) I want you all there in spirit!

  • I don't want to keep making new posts..so we need a name! Maybe a different name for the WR ones and the pick-me-up one.

I can definitely make one, Liv did you want to do the pillowcase? And then we need one more person to do a WR and be the first keeper.

I was thinking about what I said with the binder..to save on shipping and the risk of losing everything I have a different idea: Since Nursey is the first to get married, everyone can send me a postcard or a letter to her that I will send as a package with the token. She can keep all of the letters to her and then be the next person in charge or collecting postcards/sending it out. What does everyone think??

  • I think that's really cute, Lunar..but it may get too complicated. There will be new NEYers in the future and the risk of it getting damaged or lost. I definitely think we need something for pictures--but I think it would be cuter if it was something the bride and groom could hold.

Also, (and this is just my opinion) I think the most important part is sending them a package of letters they can read from us on their wedding day...or advice if they are having a bad day. KWIM?

I've always thought the ampersand was cute:

ETA: Oooh...and then people could hold it- or put it somewhere in their venue....decorate the cake table...all sorts of posibilities.

Brides can even customize it for the next bride in their wedding colors..or whatever.

I love the pillowcase idea, that's my favorite so far for those who are feeling blue. It can be stuffed or signed or drawn on, and then passed on.

I don't know if this matters or not, but I think the reason they did postcards was so they all sent it to one place. If we did a pillowcase that we had to sign then it would probably take a month to get it to all of the different places for people to sign it. If we do something more like postcards then everyone can send it to the one person who has it and that is way easier. Or else we'd have to figure out who sends to who and it would be kind of difficult.

Agreed. I think we already decided on doing a pick-me-up one, so engagement is out. We have to do at least 2 WR ones though, because more than one person will get married on the same weekend.

I thought it was a good idea to do the pick-me-up since this is the NEY board and everyone is not getting married. We can just do WR ones to cut down on the number, but it depends on what everyone wants.
