S&C vs. Brett Dorian

I am looking in to having either Brett Dorian do my make up the day of, or Smart & Chic.

I talked with Brett yesterday for a while and I *really* like her and really feel like she will give me what I want.  However Smart & Chic would cost me $115 LESS (total cost, after paying for trial and everything) than Brett and it is very likely that I would be just as happy with their work as well.

I am wondering what you would do, splurge and go for Brett, or go with the cheaper option.

Anyone who went to S&C have any reviews also?

Brett is my splurge and I couldn't be happier. I opted to have a trial run for me, more than to see her talent. I trusted her but I didn't know how the style would look on me.... I am more than 100% pleased. If you PM your email I can send you the pictures she took for my trial.

The reason I splurged is because no matter how much FI and I don't want to be we are going to be the center of attention. We are going to have thousands of pictures taken of us that will last a lifetime. So I wanted the best of the best. I also thought it would save us money in the long run because most photographers only photo shop a limited number of your pictures. This way I wont need to be photoshopped :) Her make up application is designed to work with photographic light and flashes.

I am a little biased because I love her personality and her work so much -- but in the end its up to you :)

I really think it's all on you...how much you feel comfortable spending...from everything I hear on here it doesn't sound like you'll really go wrong either way.  Since I am cheap I'd say save the $$ and go with S&C if you think you'd get the same quality from both :)

But really it's up to you, if thats something you can splurge on, then why not.

I am going with S&C because I have not heard one bad thing about them.  Why pay that much more, for more than likely equal service?  I'm not even doing a trial, I figure if I don't like something I'll speak up, it's not like hair and make-up are impossible to fix. Just my opinion, but I am also very laid back and not that picky as long as the results look good. Good luck in your decision!

Have you talked to S&C yet? I'd make sure you meet/chat with them first as well!  I wouldn't make a decision one way or the other without having spoken to both, ya know?

I had Kira and S&C and have zero complaints at all.  :)

I'm also using Brett Dorrian, and have absolutely adored her so far.  Initally, she had a prior engagement on the date of my wedding, so she put me with one of her associates and got us all together and made very sure that I was comfortable with her replacement.  Then that associate left (she was more into medical skincare than makeup, I guess), so Brett cancelled her other engagement (photo shoot in New York) so she can do me herself.  THAT is devotion to client, and she's getting a huge tip out of it.

That aside, the reason I'm going with Brett, if you check out her website, is because her tattoo covers are flawless and blended perfectly into your skin so it really disappears, not just gets spackled over.  I also considered S&C, based on the reviews from everyone here, but the problem I have with them is that all their brides kind of look the same in the pictures in their gallery.  They all looked good, but nothing stood out to me as being extraordinary.  I don't know if that's their fault or because that's what all the brides wanted going in, but it makes it look like they don't have a varied skill set.  Also, and I probably shouldn't say this, Brett has been asked to step in when another stylist firm was a no-show.  I didn't go with that other place because I don't want the risk of that happening for my wedding.

I know Brett is a big splurge, but I really do feel that her expertise and quality of work is worth every penny, and the level of customer service I've gotten so far has been outstanding.  I do wish her trials were priced lower, which is why I'm only having a hair trial and not makeup, but that's the only very minor gripe I have so far.  And for as much as photographers can cost, I feel that it's worth it to make sure you look absolutely perfect for those photos.

I had the same thoughts as I was looking for a make-up company. I looked at a ton of different companies and ended up choosing Lisa Reinhardt! She is great if you are looking for a good in-betweener, price-wise. Check out her website and chat with her :) http://www.twincitiesmakeup.com/
