YOU MUST READ THIS!!!

I am the last one to go against someone's sexual preference or tell them they will burn in hell or judge in any other way.....BUT I'm tired of it being shoved down our throats want us to connform to them when they fight against conformity daily!...Black Sororities have been around for hundreds of years and one of the few things we can STILL call our own, even for nonmembers like myself.  Boderrick took our braids, tanning beds took our color, anyway I know you ladies understand where I'm coming from. They help to shape young black women lives, who would otherwise have no one to look up too.

These are MEN with PENISES...they need to recognize & understand that. I'm appalled that black men would do such a hideous thing to further destroy what little black women have...I'm so PISSED OFF right now I can even get my thoughts together...JUST read below & Discuss this among our sister hood

  • I can't see this working for them. If the boy scouts can say no to LGBT pack leaders based on their misison statement etc. then AKAs will probably be able to do the same based on their charters etc.   Just seems crazy to file a lawsuit based on this IMO!

The issue with this will be 2 fold:

    1) if undergrad chapters at public institutions recieve funds from student fees or the institute in any way they will have to cut ties with the university to remain exclusive

2)They ain't got no sense (this hurts me to write but proper grammar just wont do)

  • Being an AKA I have to say this story keeps coming around over and over again. Go join a Frat or start a new one. Coming to our SISTERhood. I don't think so.

  • This is just too much! Really? I'm not involved with any sorority but I have plenty of friends and family that are so I understand what they are about. I hope the case is thrown out because this is just ridiculous. They need to take all the energy they are using to sue and use that energy towards starting their own organization.

I very much respect the women of AKA, Inc and the members of Divine Nine. This case is simple case law. AKA, Inc is a private organization which mission and membership requirement support women. So the courts will uphold the freedom to assemble and association, as they did in Boy Scouts vs Dale. I love case law :) In addition, I've always respected AKA, Inc for not suing MIAKA for copyright issues (using their name within the name, etc.) . They stated some time ago their position and left it at that; they have other business to take care of than fight a case they know they will win.

I'm just embarrassed that this mess started in my city! Come on TSU! They don't even have ANY Greek organizations on campus... they are all banned! So, now, HOW are they gonna join AKA if their school doesn't even have a chapter?! I'm not Greek, but I know your campus has to have a chapter for you to try to pledge.
  • I am a GRADUATE of Texas Southern University ANNNNNNNNND I was initiated into the Gamma Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc (TSU Chapter). This crap with these fish keeps coming up over and over again. As a member that has caught so much sh!t about this situation I am sick of it. My OWN sorors were coming to me and my other chapter sorors asking us how we could be so stupid to entertain these men and this foolishness. We were cornered by our own Grad chp sponsors because they wanted to know how did they get so much of our information. I can honestly say I was able to get a good portion of our information off the internet but as far as them knowing our meanings and certain rituals I can say that deep down in my soul I think that an expelled member of AKA gave them the information. I do recall one of them saying " We got the information from ONE OF YOUR OWN." when all this came out. Now as far as the university having to cut ties with the organization is not true. We are protected under the Title 9 Law, http://www2.edc.org/womensequity/pdffiles/t9digest.pdf, please read this to understand what we are protected by.
Now I can say this because I am a very active alumni with my university...NONE OF OUR ORGS ARE BANNED....And we hadnt been banned...Gamma Psi has been on the campus since Decenber 1950 and have never been banned. None of the other orgs have been banned they may have dissolved because of inactivity but never banned THIS I KNOW.
These men have no case because a good portion of them did not even graduate from college, they went to college but didnt even finish a full semester which I was able to verify from a soror that works at TSU where I used to work. In order to be a member of any org you must do 1 of 2 things...1..Be initiated in while you are ACTIVELY enrolled in college and in order to remain an active member after GRADUATING college they MUST present a conferred degree to the sorority. 2..to become a member AFTER graduation you must present a conferred degree from a university.
I am so over this topic and sooo over people being on my university and my sorority...That's my two cents that I have been giving since DAY ONE!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts but I am sooooo irked and pissed by this...

    Hey Sorors !

Let me throw my two cents in.
I pledged undergrad,Theta Beta Chapter. I have not been active in a graduate chapter for many years but I have lived in Houston for 14 years and have some Sorors who are active here. This is an old story. This story keeps coming back up from time to time. I have seen these and several other photos floating around the internet for several years now. I have never seen these men in person but I know of someone who did see some of them parading around at a PV Homecoming several years ago. I just don't think it has any real legs.

I feel your frustration, why are AKA's being blamed ? I totally disagree with this but have heard this sentiment before from other Greeks too. This is not our fault.

Exactly. Case law will shut this down. Just like the Boy Scouts. They could have been sued a long time ago for copyright infringement but the AKA's took the high road.

    This is ridiculous !

<div>Sorry. I thought that there were no Greek chapters on campus anymore. I was going to enroll last fall and I asked on one of TSU's FB pages about Greek life, and they deleted my question. And they don't have any info about Greek life on their website. So, I thought there were no active chapters of any frats/sororities. And then they took away the all the Greek trees and benches a while back, too. My ooops. I do apologize.</div>
  • No problem. Dr. Rudley decided to do away with the trees on the campus because he didnt want our campus to represent an HBCU..stupid I know. He stated that it was not fair that the greeks had decent spots to sit and other students didnt. So he made it an equal open campus for everyone. It started all kinds of big petitions and obviously we lost. Nothing about greek life is shared on the FB website because in order for anyone to attempt to pledge you have to attend a campus wide meeting.

  • Why they didnt answer your question I am not sure. I know that the AKA's and the Alphas have FB pages. But its mainly just current and past memebers that are on there...I am sorry...but if you have questions I can answer some for you....And oh yeah...the Delta's were susupend by their national headquarters due to hazing...but they are back on campus now I believe. I just knew none of us were banned...suspended is one thing banned is another...
