Because if it's like Sam's Club (it was when last I went to one) then sample day is an eating extravaganza.

Also, I priced out all the canned veg, my laundry soap, paper products, tortillas, and juices at a significant savings over Hy-vee.

Also, my club has a great gas discount for members.

• Hell, I'd do it just for the gas discount. 4 dollar gas is coming this summer, ladies.

And also things that always seem to cost me more money? That monthly or whatever trip to Target that always costs a crapload of money... I'd like to save on things like deoderant or razors or toilet paper, cleaning supplies etc.

i know! Things I was wary of spending the money on became well worth it after a sample or two.
• Do it!
I agree with Mike duds, that H and I cant but the large packages of food but we can buy booze, meat and seafood, paper towels, etc.
I also got a great deal on tires.
Where else can you buy a new tv, a vat of mayo and a casket?
image
• We are buddy members with MIL (you can add an extra card for like $10 a year.) We buy our dog food there.

• We have a Target card, and do most of our grocery/toiletry/household stuff shopping at Target. We save 5% every time. Will we save that much more with CostCo?
I love our CostCo and it's about 10000x cleaner than our Sam's Clubs here. Both clubs offer the same kind of things but have different brand offerings. I love being able to stock up on crap that I hate buying - like trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper (holy crap, H uses a lot), laundrgy detergent, soap, toothpaste, etc. We don't buy much food b/c we don't need the large quantities. Although, CC does usually have pretty prices and quality on their meats and seafood. Oh, and sometimes good deals on appliances and stuff. Oh, and their cakes? SO GOOD.

Haha do you remember that one chick who was bitching about her mom or MIL (can't remember) who suggested a Costco cake for their wedding? She was practically hysterical. "Costco cake at a wedding!? OMG NO"
panther
• Ditto the cakes too!! My MIL got one for our E party. IT was delish. In fact, I wish she would buy all her cakes from there, because I don't know where else she gets them but they usually suck.
• I have purchased giftcards to local restuarants at my costco for a good deal. We bought 2 $50 ones for $75. Not too bad.
image
• Will it have a gas station? We make back our annual membership in gas savings alone -- which is a good thing, because we seldom make it to Costco for actual shopping. (Walmart is a lot closer.)

image
• Cake ordering there is awesome.

I frapping love Costco. so much.

Not really. I tried searching for it but there are too many posts related to cakes from Costco. But the chick was really, really adament about not wanting to use a Costco cake and was pretty insulted that it was ever suggested. It was quite a while ago.

ETA - Duds WAS it about pie? Lol I honestly can't remember but that could definitely be right. Haha what a day.

EETA - Yeah. It was pie. I remember now - it wasn't about cake for a wedding, it was about pie for Thanksgiving! Right?

• Why you shouldn't shop there: I always leave with things I didn't intend to buy. Especially around holidays.
• We have a membership and we use our membership primarily for: toilet paper, paper towel, laundry detergent, steaks, chicken breasts, and pork tenderloin.

Then we buy other stuff as needed, but those are our Costco staples. We save a ton on the meat alone.
• We have Sam's Club, which I assume is similar to CostCo, but I love it. We buy tons of stuff in bulk, like toilet paper, paper towels, tissue, pasta, coffee, coffee filters, lady supplies. The money we've saved offsets the cost of the membership. How much is a CostCo membership? I think we paid $40/yr for Sams.
• AKSJSLDKFJDLSKFJDLKFD I HATE CAKE.

Everything the light touches is my kingdom.
• We do our weekly shopping at Target. Then we stock up at Costco. We buy things like:
-butter (freeze all but one box/lb, then pull out as you need)
-mushrooms (clean, freeze and pull out to cook)
-cleaning supplies!!!!!!!
-meat (separate into meal portions, and freeze)
-lunch meat (we all pack our lunches, but we freeze half and pull out as needed)
-cream of whatever soups, for cooking
-bottled water
-Gatorade, or the like
-bread (freeze)
-snacks, especially for stocking up on granola bars or the like

We have a deep chest freezer so we have a crap ton of stuff in it. But you really do end up saving money in the end. Plus, Costco's membership is cheaper than Sam's.

My costco ALWAYS has workout gear on sale. I got my sneakers for 20 bucks.

• She likes cheesecake, y'all!
• Meat is really cheap. Like I got a bunch of pork chops this weekend for $2.50 a pound or something. And I buy ziplock bags from there so I can portion out my meat and freeze it. I also buy things like nuts, canned tomatoes, and chicken stock there. Things I know I will always use. And I get a surprisng amout of organic stuff there. I know my chicken breasts and thighs are organic, the ground beef is organic and sometimes grass fed, and their lamb is from Australia so that is grass fed as well. I know the stock and tomatoes are organic as well. Overall I've been impressed with the quality.

Not for me. I stick to the perimeter of grocery stores, don't even go down candy aisles, and follow my lists.

With the Club, i have tons of things thrown in my face in such a way that they make you think you can't live without it.
In Response to Re: CostCo : I'm not sure. Matt and I do not have a membership but we tag along with his mom when she goes. We get random stuff. Maybe you could split a membership with someone? Is that even possible?
Posted by edielaura
I've split a membership with a friend before, you get 2 cards with Costco membership, so I had one and she had one.

Now my FI and I have a membership and we go about once every 6 weeks or so. Just make sure you do some comparison shopping, not everything is priced right, IMO. Meat and alcohol generally have good prices, but I've found that some household cleaners are a rip off (I have found paper towels and bleach, both regular and color safe are cheaper at Target). Overall though, I think it's worth the annual membership fee. And, as someone else pointed out, where else can you buy tires, beef jerky, wine and a wedding dress all at the same time?

Any Club store. Costco, Sam's.. Same thing.

They're sneaky. Great business plan though. They get me every time. I think last time I went I came home with a huge 3 bottle pack of Dove moisturizing body wash because it smelled so darn good, a jumbo pack of frozen shrimp (my H doesn't eat most seafood), and a 5 pound box of grapes which I didn't manage to eat through before they spoiled.
• CostCo Travel alone is worth it. They have amazing prices on pretty much every trip/travel need you could imagine.

• I split a membership with my mom so its $25 a year. Like anna said, the quality of stuff is just better there. The chicken is amazing, and they are frozen in individual portions already so no freezer burn. I buy snacky stuff like chips and crackers, bread is really cheap, vegetables are cheap (6 bundles of romaine lettuce for $2.69, 5lb bag of spinach for less than $3 I think) paper products (not necessarily the cheapest you can buy, but much better quality than the cheap stuff) spices, soda, and cheese. The coupons are usually pretty good too.
• $1.50 hot dog & a soda

I spent $12 on a box of tampons in October, and still have over half the box leftover.

Their bagels and muffins are delicious (I always try to eat just half, though, cuz they're huge).

Great prices on booze, tires, Christmas decorations, books, cleaning products (I'm a cleaning whore) and toilet paper/paper towels.
