Marriage License, Passport, SS & DMV Advice from this MRS!

BEFORE WEDDING:

Unless you have an awesome DMV... that you can get in and out of.... I know Palm Beach County is NOT like that.... Make your DMV appointment for about 2 weeks AFTER your wedding (unless you are very prompt like me... and go to SS and get your SS card changed 1 week after your wedding then you MIGHT be able to do 1 week out). MAKE THAT APPOINTMENT NOW save yourself the hasslle.

Marriage License - 60 days or LESS Before Wedding - GET your Marriage License. You will likely not need your Birth Certificate to get your Marriage License.

Passport - I DID NOT EXPEDITE!!! Unless you NEED it in less than a month, you should be ok to do the normal processing time.

You WILL Need your birth certificate to get your passport, and YOU WILL NOT GET IT BACK RIGHT AWAY. Make a copy for your records JUST IN CASE it gets lost. You will get it back AFTER you get your passport in the mail. My Passports took 2 weeks and got my BC back at about 3 weeks, and HIS back around 4 wks.

AFTER WEDDING!

1. SEND IN MARRIAGE LICENSE:
Your Officiant may do this....or your MOH or BM can do it for you... Who ever you trust more.

My MOH sent our License in to the courthouse on Monday the 9.27... We got back home from HM on 10.2 and License was there!!! Yippee!!!

2. GO TO SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE FIRST! DO NOT STOP. DO NOT PASS GO. DO NOT COLLECT $200....

I went to SS on Tuesday at 10am.... Very Easy. Just needed SS Card (or Current Passport), ORIGINAL Marriage License and Drivers License.

There is NO FEE to change your name on SS card.

3. YOU MUST WAIT AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE GOING TO DMV!!!!

DRESS LIKE YOU ARE GOING ON A DATE WITH YOUR HUSBAND or a job interview if you want. :) Remember certain makeup reflects in photos... this is the same scenario!! My Bare Minerals reflected quite a bit and I look a little shiny. :)

BRING WITH YOU -
Old SS Card (and or Passport)
Drivers License (w/ maiden name)
2 Pieces of Mail with Maiden Name and current address.
$25 in CASH, CHECK or Mastercard, Discover or AmEx...
DO NOT BRING VISA. They DO NOT ACCEPT VISA!
It was $25.00 for a replacement license. I am pretty sure the fee is teh same EVERYwhere, but I could be wrong.

I think that is it! Hope this helps someone!!!

Love you all!

Happy Wedding Week to my 10.10.10 ladies! I <3 you!!!

Can you explain the marriage license thing to me? My understanding is that a marriage license is basically Florida approving us to get married, is that right? I know that you recommended that we do this 60 days before the wedding, but is there any law that requires that we do it a certain number of days before the wedding? (I'm worried about this as a long-distance bride - my fi is in Los Angeles. Also, where do we go to get our marriage license?

Sorry, I know that's a million questions, but I've been confused about this for awhile, and Google doesn't seem to be answering me!

    Thanks!

Becky, the marriage license is only good for 60 days I believe, so you can't get it any early than 60 days before your wedding. And yes, it's basically an OK to get married. After you get the license, you have to wait I think two days before you can get married, unless you're from out of state, then it's effective immediately.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong with this info.

I didn't wait 24 hours to go to the DMV.  I went to SS and walked right over to the DMV (in Delray).  But that was in November of last year.  Rules may have changed.

    Very good advice!
