Whine

I had to get a tetanus shot this afternoon.  The more time progresses, the more I want to cry.  My arm frickin hurts.  And it's supposed to be even worse tomorrow.

And it's because I got a really bad scrape on my knee last Monday and it's icky and infected.  I feel like a dunce cause I've been taking care of it, but somehow, it got infected anyway.

I just feel whiney cause I want a little TLC and it's just me and the dogs.

/end whine

Re: Whine

  • Tetanus shots are the worst! I had one about 2 years ago, so painful. I secretly wish this thread was about wine, and then I wish for more wine.
  • Those shots are the worst. Ugh.

    My whine,
I just got my ER bill of $750 for them to not really tell me much. I can add that to the $2000 I am paying off for my overnight stay last fall. Saying, "Huh. That's weird" is not worth my time or money. I am paying a hell of a lot; figure it out.
We got new tires for FI's truck yesterday for $500, and found out it needs a $700 front end repair.
Add that to the $1000 of vet bills we are paying off- $4950. We have been making a huge effort to save lately, and that has basically all been eaten up with these recent bills. FML.

I hate medical bills.  After spending 38 minutes on the phone with the insurance company and confirming I only had a co-pay, I got a few bills to meet our deductable.  Dude, really? Why were we on the phone so long? And the reason it was on the phone is cause it was early in the year and we hadn't gotten our breakdown/responsibilities yet.

  • Ugh, I hate shots/needles.  Hope it gets better super fast!

I'm having the suckiest of days at work today and just want to curl up and cry.  Sucks working with 20 men cause I can't let it show even a smidge... one more hour and I can go HOME.

Great ... now I want to snuggle with your weirdo dogs.

I have a 100 pound German Shepherd that SWEARS she's a lap dog.
  • In the past two weeks, I've had an IV of DHE, an IM injection of Toradol, and a prescription of Prednisone, trying to break my daily migraine cycle. Prednisone is the suck.  I hurt everywhere. I'm glad I'm done with it. Each shot should have given me a couple of weeks' relief; I got a couple of days.

I'm going to run out of meds before I can get them refilled this month. It's been a horrid March. Aaaand here comes the tornado watch.

  • One more whine-
I am allergic to pineapple. For some reason, my grandparents put pineapple of the ham on Easter. I didn't realize this until I started itching. My face and neck has had a rash for two days, and today I was so puffy that I couldn't get my ring on. I think they're trying to kill me.

Oh, I'm a migraine sufferer.  Have you tried a food log to see if you have severe food triggers?  MSG, raw onion, chocolate, sugar, and a few others are mine.

Also, it's sucks hardcore and only works if you can miss work a bit or be pretty useless, but quitting ALL meds to "detox" your body helps too.

Good luck.  I feel your pain.

Oh, I take one or two Relpax, one anti-nausea pill (I forget what my Rx is for) and 2 tylenol when I get a bad one and I'm usually back to normal in 12-24 hours.  This combination is the result of MANY trials.

I'm allergic to shellfish and my mom makes paella for family dinners ALL THE TIME.  I feel you.  Assuming your g-rents are old, I bet they forgot.  Does Benadryl help?  Or do you have an epi pen?  Also, drink a lot of water to help flush your system.

Oh that just sucks. Pineapple is one of the most delicious things on the planet :(
  • I took benadryl, and put hyrdrocortisone cream on, to no avail. I don't have an epi pen, because I figure I can just watch what I eat. My rice allergy is much worse.
My grandparents aren't too old. They're just narcissists haha. I will try drinking lots of water though. Anything to stop looking like a squirrel.

Missy- I would only take prednisone as a last resort. For me, I can't control my emotions, my heart freaks out, and I blow up like a balloon. Do you do any home remedies? Or natural medicine?

  • Just think, it could always be worse!

Instead of a tetanus shot--it could have been a bone marrow biopsy. Now that's painful.

It'll feel better soon, and you'll be glad you got it!

  • Oh!  For migraines, I also go see a chiropractor.  My posture and body are weird so there is pressure on my spine and shoulders.  An adjustment relieves the pressure and makes me feel better.

Also, they can be hormone related so BC pills can help.

I'm NOT a doctor, just throwing out random ish in case you're in the beginning of figuring out why you get yours.  I've been through this and I had blood work, MRI's, food logs, stopped ALL meds, exercise, blood pressure test/tracking, allergy tests, etc.

    It's a lot of work.

    Holy crap, you win.

But yeah, it could be way worse.  I'm just craptastically whiney tonight.
  • Alexia, my trigger is the weather and stress - I never had these cycles until I moved here, where the fronts are so strong and change so quickly (no mountains to block them). No food triggers I've ever discovered. I had rebound headaches last year trying desperately to stop them, so the only pain reliever I take now is naproxen. No tylenol (except what's in my pain med), no advil. And I don't use cold medicines/sleep stuff with it in it, either.

I'm not in a situation to detox from all medication right now, but I'm fairly certain none of my meds are triggers/causes. The one exception could be BCP, and I've asked about it. Oh yeah - I take a daily prophylactic treatment, too.

The prednisone made my fingers swell, my knees hurt, my back hurt, and was half the reason I went in for a Toradol shot.

  • Whine - I'm hot, I'm already sick of being hot. It was 98 degrees outside and we still don't have AC. My chinchilla is now living in her frozen cake pan because it's nice and cool in there.
I also don't want to go get a root canal tomorrow. Not only for the pain/root canal part of it, but because we don't have the extra money for it right now. My boss had a root canal recently (we have same dental insurance) and he had to open a line of credit to pay for it. The money issue enough makes me want to cry.
Oh, and we have to have another meeting with our loan officer to sign more papers and read through the HOA docs, because that's really what I want to do after a root canal when I'm taking pain meds.

  • My Mom has terrible migraines. Some home remedies that worked for her-
As soon as you feel one coming on, chug a beer. It sounds silly, but is has worked for her in the past. She normally doesn't drink, but will have me run to the store and get her a beer if she is getting ill.
Submerge your hands in very hot water for a few seconds.

I have no idea why/if these work, but she has had success preventing them.

I just always have to tell myself "it could be worse..." ---and, of course, that I'm glad for whatever it was that I had done (shots, tests, etc.)....

But seriously, shots are the worst. And it always seems like there is a target on the spot that you got the shot---and it keeps getting bumped and stuff, making it worse!

    Yay for avoiding weird diseases from infections though!!<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

  • tetunus shots suck :( I also remember one I got to go to college (meningitis maybe?) stung like a mofo for a week straight. I also still have the scar from my tb vaccination I got when I was 5 :(
  • I'm allergic to the entire state of Missouri.

I have a giant canker sore in my mouth that makes eating anything painful.

I'm scared shitless about my half marathon on Saturday.

The wedding is turning me into an emotional mess, even for totally non-WR things.  The stress is seeping into everything.
