How soon and where did you register?

FI and I haven't registered anywhere yet because I'm not sure when would be a good time to do so. I've been thinking more about it lately because I've already had a few people ask where we are registered.  We're getting married in June, and I know there are possibly two bridal showers in the works, but not sure when. When should we begin registering? Also, where did you register? We are thinking Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond. Thanks for any help my lovely (P&)Eer's!

Re: How soon and where did you register?

  • I registered in January.  Our wedding is in July.  We registered at Macy's, BBB & Target.
  • We registered 9 months out and have had lots of problems with stuff being discontinued.  If the wedding is in June, I'd say now is a good time.

    We're registered at BBB, C&B, and Macy's.

Target is notorious for being terrible with registries.  I think their return policy isn't great, and their stock changes quickly and can be hard to find.  I've shopped off wedding and baby registries there before and it's really frustrating.

This is what I've been worried about. I think this is another good reason why I've waited so long.
  • We did Target and BBB and didn't have a problem with either.  We got married in June and registered in early December because I wanted to do something since big planning had to wait until xmas break.  We didn't have a problem with stuff being discontinued.

Oh, and I returned stuff at both places and then bought it again down here (instead of paying an arm and a leg for shipping) and had absolutely no problems, even without gift receipts.

This is a good time.  You're only 4 months out now.  Not too soon, not too late.

Edit: We registered at BB&B and Target.  BB&B has a great return policy.

I registered about 9-10 months out. It was really early to register but I was so excited to use the scanner!! I know I'm a dork.

Everyone loved the fact that we registered crazy early. We got wedding gifts for my birthday and Christmas. Besides the fact that I have to add more stuff to the registry, I loved it.

Edit: Oh and we registered at Target and BB&B and I've noticed that a few things are out of stock from both. We also returned stuff from both places.

Which reminds me... Why do people buy things off of your registry and not take it off of the registry!! We got two of two separate things and neither one was taken off of the registry.
  • It's not too early for you to register.  I think we registered about 9 months before the wedding.  We used Bed Bath & Beyond and I was really happy with that.  We also did a registry at Lowe's for my H after my shower, and so we got a ton of Lowe's gift cards.  I don't know if they still have a registry option though.  I thought I heard they got rid of it.

  • It's never too early to register!  We had an e-party a few months after we got engaged so we registered in anticipation that some people may bring gifts.  We didn't register for a lot then - just opened the registries and began them.  Then I knew my shower invitations were being mailed so we went back and added a bunch of things on.

We registered at C&B and Williams & Sonoma.  Both were great to work with and returns/exchanges were a breeze.

    Have fun!
  • We registered in November (at BB&B) & our wedding is in September. We have sinced updated it quite a bit & kept an eye on it to make sure items don't become discontinued or unavailable.
  • We registered in November for our wedding in March -- BB&B, Macy's and TenThousandVillages.com (handmade crafts from around the world).
  • We registered in Nov or Dec for our May wedding.  Nothing has been discontinued, but we didn't have any seasonal items.  BBB & C&B.  We went to Macy's too, but everything we liked there was also at BBB.

  • I just registered last weekend for our May 15th wedding. We aren't having a shower so I didn't need to worry about having it done in time for that. We did BB&B and REI, since we don't really need too much housewares...and camping stuff is more fun :)

  • We did it last weekend, so almost 8 months prior. Our registries are at BBB and Target. I've heard the bad things about Target, but I know my guests will prefer it. Our BBB one will be bigger.

  • We haven't registered yet for our wedding in September. I figure we'll give it a couple months, until after we've sent out our STD's to out-of town family and stuff.

I want to register at William's-Sonoma, Macy's and BB&B. I figure that gives us a nice variety of items and price points. Let's see what FI says, though. There might be somewhere else he'd rather reigster, which is fine with me. :)

  • We're getting  married June and began registering in Jan. We went to Target, Baed Bath and Beyond, and Kohls. Target has given me some problems and I am not happy with them. We asked for more registry annoucements for the bridal shower invites and they would not give us more. If someone looks at your registry online before going into the store and they see a good price on something they want to buy, but the online price is different than in the store, they will charge you full price. And it is hard to find things.

  • I would register now if you are getting married in June, and then update your registry after each of your bridal showers to make sure that there are enough items left for the next shower and the wedding.  When I got married, I registered in March for my August Wedding.  I am also a Gift Registry Consultant at Macy's, so that was the only store that I registered at.  They have a great return policy, and if you have a Macy's card, they have a great rewards program where you get a percentage of your guests purchases back after the wedding on a gift card, so not only did I get my gifts, but I got about $200 back as well!

  • i registered in feb for a may wedding (4 months before) and at Macy's and Kohl's.  The problem with registering early is that some of your things might be out of stock or discontinued by the time the bridal shower/wedding rolls around.  Luckily, most sites prompt you to update/change that item out.

Good luck and have fun registering!
  • We registered at Bed Bath & Beyond because I love that store.  It has such a plethora of items.  We went at least 6 months ago and our wedding is also in June.  I only had one item discontinued and they were towels so it was easy to find a replacement.  The entire experience was good, no pushy sales reps, no issues at all.
If you are getting married in June I would suggest doing the registry soon.  Since everyone will be looking to that for ideas on gifts.
    Best of Luck!!

If the guest didn't give the cashier the registry information to scan, then it didn't realize that he/she was buying it for YOU as opposed to any other person they may be buying it for. Thus, it didn't take it off the list. When you go to buy a registry gift make sure to give them the registry print out. It has a barcode they have to scan. Also, I always tell someone like the mother of the bride what I got so that she can make sure it was removed from the registry without spoiling it for the bride.
  • Our wedding is in July, and we registered back in October.  That was probably a bit early, though, bc we had to recently go back through and take off things that are no longer on there.  Since you're wedding is in June, I would suggest doing your registry soon.

We registered at BBB and then used the Amazon Universal Registry Button to add items to our Amazon registry from a ton of different sites.

  • We're getting married in July,  and we just registered.  We registered at BBB and Macy's. Love that Fiestaware!
  • We had an engagement party so we registered really early (june 2009) the wedding date is september 2010. We registered with the Hudson's Bay Company. They are really great because thay have online purchasing for our out of province guests as well as services in both english and french. If you can't guess we are Canadian so the store might not help you but the time line could. Good Luck!!
  • We are getting married in June 2011 and we registered in November so it's never too early. You can just change things if things get discontinued. We registered with Macy's and Target.

  • We registered about 5-6 months before our wedding at Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, and Macy's. I think the big things to think about are location (do the people you're inviting have access to the stores), and what you want. I did Macy's for some kitchen stuff and china/crystal. Pottery Barn for everyday ware, bedding, and decor, and WS for kitchenware. I would find what you like first, then register there, rather than limiting yourself with what ____ has.

BBB has a great selection and carries pretty much everything, so it's a one stop shop, plus your guests can use coupons.

Just make sure for seasonal items (which would normally be just decoration things) that you register for them in the season of your wedding, and they shouldn't be discontinued.
  • Let's see....we got engaged in mid August, we're getting married in July. We registered in October I think. It was just something fun and we were excited to do it so it was just something to get done. It was lost of fun. We went to BB&B and Target. :D

  • We just registered on saturday and sunday. We are getting married in October. I wanted to wait, but so many people kept bugging me about it, that I thought it best to get it over with. I registered at a lot of places because I already have a well-stocked home, and there were just a few things I needed that only a certain store would carry. Because of this, I did BB&B, Target, Macy's, Williams-Sonoma, Sur La Table, Crate and Barrel, and Home Depot. Everywhere had a really great experience, except Home Depot (which has no online component and no scanner gun so you have to write all the SKU's down) and Sur La Table because it took us two days to actually be in the store when there was someone who could help us, and you can't make appointments.
  • We'll be registering in a couple of weeks for our August wedding. I was worried about stuff being discontinued also, but I think it depends what you are are registering for...I would expect that a lot with linens and towels, and little knick knacks.

We're leaning toward Macy's and Bed and Bath.  Macy's offers 5% back in rewards  (from the gifts bought) that you can use towards the remaining items from you registry, in addition to 10% off the remaining items.  Both stores have some brand specials where if a certain $ amount is purchased from that brand, you'll receive a free gift.  For example, if $400+ is bought from Caphalon Products, you'll receive a free sauce pan.

  • I registered at Target earlier then i was planning on because they were giving out free gift cards if you registered. I have had nothing but problems with them, i keep finding things on my registry that i didn't even put on there and it won't let me delete them.!
  • I think it is not too early at all for you to register; there shouldn't be too many problems with things being discontinued, and you can always just start your registry with the basics, like dish, pots and pans, etc., and then keep adding more fun stuff as the necessities get bought.  Just keep an eye on it and if something is no longer available, try to switch it out for a similar item.

We registered at Target, Macy's, and Crate and Barrel.  The macy's rewards thing is awesome - we got almost $100 - and we've only had trouble with the target stuff b/c we waited waaaaaay too long to take things back.  We were really nervous about Crate and Barrel b/c there aren't any in the state we got married in (MESSAGE To CRATE AND BARREL: PLEASE come to Oklahoma!!  We love you!!), but actually got quite a bit of the stuff off our registry there.
