Farewell send off

So my wedding is exactly one month away from today!! I met with our priest..we're getting married in a very strict Catholic church. He is not allowing our guests throw ANYTHING afterwards (Earth safe confetti, streamers etc)! He said he will let us blow bubbles but I heard it stains your dress and kids just play with it! Any suggestions other than confetti and bubbles?

Re: Farewell send off

  • bubbles do not stain your dress.  I asked our awesome dry cleaner (best in NJ, IMO) and she smiled because she had just bought bubbles for her DDs wedding.  If it's okay with the person who deals with stains all day every day, it's okay with me.

But if you still don't want them, then I vote for clapping and cheering.  It's free, easy, eco-friendly, and not lame.

You don't have to get pelted with stuff to feel married.

    <div>LOL. I like that.  </div><div>
</div><div>I saw someone else say they might use sparklers, which sounds really cool, though I know some people are afraid of them.  I dunno.  My church is the same way.  No petals, confetti, rice, birdseed-- not even bubbles, though I really can't figure out why they'd ban bubbles.  So I'm either skipping the "send off" thing all together, or I might ask around about people's opinions on the sparklers (we're having a 6pm wedding in the fall, so it'll be dusky enough).</div>
    This knottie's been ransacked, suckas!
  • Maybe flags like these?  I made them - really easy and fun.

  • Bubbles shouldn't stain your dress and whenever I've seen them at weddings, it's always been a success and makes for great pictures.

That said, I'm also a big fan of just letting your guests clap and cheer.  They don't have to throw anything at you.

  • Kirsten:  I'm pretty sure the reason some places don't allow bubbles  is the "slip" factor.  Our church has a slate sidewalk.  If someone were to spill their bubbles on slate, it could get pretty slippery.  And great aunt Hortense slipping on the slate sidewalk is something no one wants to see.

  • We did sparklers, and as long as the guests stand back far enough, you shouldn't get any sparks on you. We had an evening wedding so it made for awesome pictures!

We are having our guests throw leaves (ours is in the fall) You can have them clap or ring bells. You know what they say "Every time a bell rings an angels get his/her wings"

  • Thanks everybody...It's down to bells or clapping/whistling/cheering!!
  • I have also seen a pretty idea where you attach ribbons to a dowell rod and the guests wave them back and forth for your farewell.  I'm sure that would make for pretty pictures.  And you can DIY, just search for Wedding Ribbon Wands.

  • Bells, kazoos, whistles, DIY ribbon wands, guests clapping, would 4th of July sparklers work?
