Help Ring rash:(

So I have been engaged for over a year now, and I have been wearing my engagement ring every since, well a few months ago I noticed I had all this drry skin on my finger just underneath the ring.. so I didn't wear it for a few days and it went away. And this weekend we were out at a party and I was playing with my ring and my FI saw this red irriatated rash underneath my ring.. and it was embarressing! So we got home and he was like are you allergic to it?? and I am like how could I be???
WEll.... I did some research online that stated some white gold can have nickel in it.. and I am def allergic to that! What a nightmare! PLease tell me some of you have had this problem or know how to fix it!!!!!

Re: Help Ring rash:(

  • I had that problem with a ring FI gave me for my birthday a few years ago.  It was white gold too.  Knowing that white gold and I don't get along, when FI bought my e-ring, he bought platinum.  My wedding band is platinum too.

The price of gold is so high right now that there wasn't a significant price difference in gold vs. platinum.

FI's best man has the same problem with his wedding ring.  He can't wear it because he's allergic to white gold.  He's trading his in for platinum while the price of gold is still high.

Maybe you could trade in your white gold for platinum?  I also think that they can mix gold with palladium instead of nickel to make "white gold".

  • Maybe try putting a layer of clear nail polish along the inside? I know I did this when I was younger and had rings that didn't get along with my skin. I'm not sure if I've done that to a white gold ring so may need to do some research but I can't see a reason it would do any damage to the ring.

<div>This works wonders !!!! also do not wear your ring when you do dishes wash hand lotion etc that causes more irratiation</div>
  • I had this problem right after I got my ring.  I sent it out to get rhodium dipped and it has been fine ever sinces.  It is acting up a little bit now so it might be time to send it again.  If you got your wedding band with your engagement ring you might want to get that dipped as well, which is what i will have to do.

  • I agree with the clear nail polish.  I also did this growing up since I'm allergic to some metals and always got rashes from my rings growing up.  It'll chip off after a while but you can just peel off the rest and re-coat, it's a cheap easy fix.
