African American Weddings

Really? (long)

Ya'll I am about to go off on one of my wedding vendors. A few weeks ago FI and I were getting our passports when this lady that works there gave me the number of her neighbor that she said does wedding linens. I contacted the lady and she told me her & her sister do weddings and provide linens (all of them) for 125. I'm like cool and I asked if she did decor. Since we have all of our stuff I just needed someone to set it up. She said they could do that. I asked for a price all she kept saying was it's very cheap, cheaper than what you would normally pay.

Well I never got a definite price quote until two weeks later after I visited one of her setups. She tells me 500 to decorate church & reception. The church will already be decorated so I asked what was pricing just for reception. She told me she would contact me friday (not this past friday the one prior to that). Friday comes and goes never hear from her, mind you I told her when she contacted me Friday we could schedule a day and time for me to come pay deposit. I follow-up with her through text the next Wednesday. I don't hear anything back from her until this morning.

She proceeds to tell me since she hasn't heard from me and no deposit was paid she didn't feel obligated to order anything for me (additional linens since she only has enough for 100 people). I respond back that per last conversation she would be contacting me with pricing. Then the truth comes out she said she didn't feel the need to contact me (wow) because she felt like I was trying to get her to lower her prices. (hello you said price to decorate church/reception is 500, if I asked for reception only logic will tell you that pricing should change since it's one thing especially if I am not told otherwise when I ask for pricing for just reception) During our previous convo she never stated this is my rate period regardless of if I'm doing the church/reception or just reception etc. I said ok well just do linens and we'll skip everything else, even offered to pay the additional shipping cost to have linens rushed (even though it was not my fault she did not contact me). She responds I don't rent out my linens unless I decorate (again was not told this until today) So I told her just forget it and I'll go to a regular rental place where I can get just linens. Mind you my wedding is next weekend so I'll have to hurry to try to get linens.

I am sorry you had to deal with this unprofessional "business woman". This is exactly why we decided to only work with vendors that came highly recommended, and had price lists available from the start. I can't believe she felt you were trying to get her to lower the prices when you only wanted the reception decorated.

Don't stress, I'm sure you will find a great vendor that will go above and beyond what she was trying to do.

Let it roll off your back... use that energy in a positive way and be glad you don't have to deal with her unprofessionalism any longer.

Do I need to come make a road trip to P-cola or call some of my FI cousins to come help you out?  Yeah she needs a swift kick. She doesn't want any business they way she is trying to operate. I know that looking for linen isn't what you want to do 12 days out but at least you don't have to put up with the possibility of her being late, doing it wrong or not showing up on your big day.

Agree with PP.  Her lack of professionalism is not your problem.  You can still get linens locally from a rental company in town.  If you call before the Wednesday of your wedding, they will still have time to fit your order into their weekend delivery schedule. Since they will only have to drop off linens, that is a super easy order for them.  Not to worry.

She should get a negative vendor rating. But i'm glad you found out with enough time to do something about it!

Yes ya'll this lady went from the first time I contacted her saying 125 for all linens and supposed to be providing me a quote on decor to her fee is 500 for church/reception. I asked for fee for reception only (since it was posed as if it could be separated) and was told she would follow-up with me on it. Never heard back until today when she said she didn't feel a need to contact me. Also told that I can't use her linens without decor. Ok on the first day I contacted you I should have been told this is my price for linens but in order to use my linens you have to go with my decor and pricing starts here. None of this was communicated until today after lying saying I was supposed to contact her when all along she knew she was supposed to follow-up with me but just chose not to.

@MsKtN-I'll follow-up with you. I'm running late for school but I'll get back to you after I finish my final today. Thanks!

Sorry you had to deal with her, especially so close to your wedding.  I probably would have went off on her too....lol.  I'm surprised she is still in business.

Ah man that's horrible. Definitely not professional. I agree with the other ladies don't let that stress you too much. You still can get linens from a rental company. I hope your final went well :)

Sorry you had to deal with that, but glad that you did not do business with her.  She sounds very unprofessional.  You may have been able to avoid much needed drama.

Sorry you having to deal with this....I found out my linening company ordered the wrong napkin color 7 days before my wedding and everything worked out and I got what I paid for and originally order.  Just make sure you start calling vendor immediately, so they will have time to rush order what you need.  Good Luck!

It sucks that you tried to support a up and coming business and she did you this way. SMH...I hate how we treat each other sometime.  I know it will all work!  Sorry that you had additional stress added. Just let it go and move on.  Would be nice though if you can give her a bad rating some where BBB or yelp or somewhere.
