My photographer's a jackass

I'm having my vow renewal in three months and he said he'd do "engagemet photos" free of charge. Since I wanted to do invitations with a picture of my husband and I, I was really excited. He's only free two days a week, which happen to be days my husband always works. I understand he's young and not exactly a professional, but I don't think I can stand anymore when he blew off the photo shoot today for another gig. I'm so upset and I don't know what to do. My budget doesn't allow me to get another photographer and I don't know how I'm going to deal with him on the vow renewal day.

Did you know all this before you signed a contract?  Did you sign a contract?  If not...look for someone else now.  I would not be able to trust the reliability of someone who cancels that kind of appointment for that kind of reason.

And...you can't expect someone to act like a professional when they are not one.
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!

If you've already signed a contract and/or are just interested in working with this photographer, I would directly address your concerns with him.  As a professional photographer myself, it is an absolute to treat your clients and their time with respect in a professional and personal manner.  A wedding or renewal ceremony can be stressful and your photographer should not be one of your worries.

If you have not signed a contract or feel you truly cannot make the relationship with the photog work, consider looking for other photographers.  Though an investment, a professional photographer typically offers multiple consultations to ensure their photography style is what you are looking for including who is to be photographed, where and any special requests you may have.  Many photographers will also include a free "engagement" or get to know you session when a wedding or "day of" package is purchased.  These initial photos could be used for your invitations.

If you are simply looking for a nice picture for your invitation and not an album from the ceremony, try asking your friends or coworkers if they have an interest in photography.  You would be surprised who has a secret passion for photography!

    Good luck!
