Re: It's Friday, Friday, everyone get down on Friday

  • Good morning Britt! I'm pretty jacked about the weekend! Although I keep realizing how much I need to do before Monday, and trying not to panic! Going to try some baking and wrapping presents tomorrow, hopefully putting together my gift baskets. I made dill pickles this summer, so I'm going to put those in my baskets but I still need to decide on other stuff.

  • haha I sat and waited for it to load and turn blue again.. its been a long week.

That sounds like fun, We have a christmas party on sunday so I have to get gifts I totally forgot it was this weekend. I almost have the rest of my christmas shopping done, I just need to get my parents stuff and get something for the grandparents then I should be done.

My night went ok, There was a possibility FI would be back from Wyoming but they had to stay another night so I watched more cheesy netflix shows.
I really should have cleaned but I couldn't bring myself to do it.. Bleh.

Are you almost done with your shopping?

  • So the site really is different?  That's not just in my head - which happens to be full of cough medicine and antibiotics?

I'm a work for a meeting at 1:30 then I'm peacing out.  I feel like crap still and probably should not be out of my house today but I didn't really have a choice. Blah.  Thank goodness it's Friday!

And also, I make no apologies for typos today.

  • I've got three periods of testing, then the drama group is performing the play for the school...

    I walked to work. It's 20 below (windchill -33 C). Brisk!

We have our teacher dinner and dance tomorrow night. It's for all the schools in town, and there will be around 100 or so there. I hope the music is better than last year, but the meal is always awesome!

I'll spend the rest of the weekend gutting the spare room and getting ready for DS' arrival. I'll finish my shopping (a few odds and ends - stocking stuff) and do some wrapping. I've got baking to do, the kids Christmas party has been rescheduled, and the Bond movie is playing in town this weekend.

I can honestly say that I've never listened to the song, but knew the reference.

Jenny, that sounds like so much fun! I miss dancing.

H and I are going to see the Kentucky Opry Christmas Show tonight, which is awesome. We go every year. We'll stay with my brother tonight, if he's in this part of the world, then tomorrow it's UK basketball and Anna Karenina! I'm so excited; won't get much done this weekend, but it'll be a lot of fun to get out of town with H for a while, even if it's only a few hours away.

Sorry Shay! H has had the same thing for weeks, he finally had to call the doctor. He's finally starting to see a light at the end.

Today I get off at 1 , so I can run home at pack to go to MIL, 3 1/2 hours away. She'll get to meet great granddaughter, so it should be fun. We'll come back Saturday.

Last night I got my hairs did, so I could look purty ;) Step-daughter got a massage from my yoga instructor and H took care of the baby.

We still have no idea what to get my MIL for Christmas, we are at a total loss.

She is so hard to buy for, she's an old farm woman. Not into "stuff". And my H has not been in her house in 20 years, because she is a hoarder. So we're not even sure that she uses the stuff we have gotten her in the past. The one thing we do get her every year is a snow plow service.

    Morning!

Woah. Does anyone else's Knot website look totally different today? Like really really different? To me it looks like a total redesign. I kinda like it but it's going to take some getting used to. It took me a minute to find the message boards from the main Knot page.

This morning I need to create a nondenominational happy holidays ad for our company that will run in our papers this week. So i'll be busy for awhile and don't have time at the moment to read everyone's posts so far. Are wreaths nondenominational?

[QUOTE]If by nondenominational you mean it can apply to everyone, then wreaths don't work for the Jewish holiday.

<div>Thank you Edie, it's always good for me to get other perspectives. Back to the drawing board then. </div><div>
</div><div>I don't really think of wreaths necessarily as christian, since I have a wreath on my door all year round, but it changes for the season or the holiday it falls around. I have fall, spring, and winter ones. I purposely bought a less christmasy wreath this year so that I could keep it up for a couple months. </div><div>
</div><div>It's so hard to find graphics for ads like this that won't offend anyone. Most of the time I try to find something festive looking, but doesn't really reference any holiday. We are saying Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays as part of the text. I guess I'll just make the typography look really pretty instead of using any holiday graphics. </div><div>
</div><div>ETA: How about a snowy background? Would that work?</div>

  • Yay, Friday!
I just have to finish getting stuff for work people, then I'm all done with Christmas shopping!

I also think I'm getting sick, so I'm looking forward to finishing work then coming home and sleeping!
  • I second a snowy background!

KD, will something with pictures work?  Like, a new photo-album filled with pictures of family, or a digital frame that you can upload pictures to remotely so you can add new pictures even when you're not there?
Also, for both my grandmas, the entire family put together a calendar, with each person planning a day/event and putting it in there.  For example one of my aunts got tickets to a musical and a hotel room for them and then put it on the calendar for the weekend it is in February, my brother got her a plane ticket and hotel room where he lives for June so she can come to his big work showcase (it's really fun, not boring).  I'm doing a spa day for the two of us, my 16 year old cousin is doing dvds of Downton Abbey so they can watch it together, et cetera.
Granted, this works because there are a million people in our family, and about 50 people contributing to the calendar, but it might work in your situation as well?

Also, real time update, it is snowing!  I am only about a third excited as I should be, because now I have to drive to work.

Thanks ladies, I appreciate the ideas, really. But I guess you would really need to know her. She is 83, but still owns a Fitness Center, but will not travel. And there is really nothing in the tiny town of Van Wert, Ohio seriously.

And H's sister who usually helps in the process has a bug up her arse and hasnt talked to H in over a year. It's just really odd. And we got her a digital frame years ago, and I really dont even think she's taken it out of the box. As I said no one is allowed in her house.

    We'll figure it out somehow.

I just got into the office, it's only about 8 here though. We had our party last night - I got rave reviews on the venue. It was at the Chihuly Garden and Glass, awesome museum and his work is amazing. He is the one who did the glass work in the Balagio hotel in Vegas.

I'm SO looking forward to the weekend! 2 big stressful events are completed!

  • Edie - I agree, after seeing the exhibit, I think I have a newfound appreciation for his work. I'd give my right arm to have a chandelier from him hanging in my house (once we buy one), but the small pieces in the gift shop started at about $65k.
