2 Maids of Honor

Is anyone thinking about having two maids of honor? I am really torn between having to chose between two very close friends but at the same time I think it's important to give that honor to one person. Any opinions on this topic would be great!

Re: 2 Maids of Honor

  • I just have 1, but I think 2 is completely fine.

The only concern I would have is that you should either have just the 2 MOHs (and no BMs) or have at least 2 other BMs.  It would be a little awkard to have 2 MOHs and 1 BM.  I think that would make the lone BM feel left out.
  • I have a 5 person bridal party, so it would be the 2 MOH and 3 bridesmaids. I just don't know how numbers would work with FI's party since he is having one best man

I guess I technically had 3.  My daughters and stepdaughter were my BMs, but no one was designated as 'MOH'.  You can have however many you want.

  • I had two MOHs--my little sister and my best friend from HS.  It worked really well for us.  My sister asked best friend to plan the shower and bachelorette party because she didn't know where to start, but my sister helped me a lot on the day of the wedding.

Bridal party sides don't have to be even, and there doesn't have to be a 1 to 1 ratio of MOH to Best Man.
  • I know it doesn't "have to be" any particular way. I just like things to look even and I am very traditional. So the thought of someone walking alone down the aisle doesn't sit well with me

I have two MOHs too. My little sister who is turning 17 right before the wedding and my cousin who I have been close with since birth. The best man will just be accompanied by 2 ladies. No biggie.

  • I have two MOH.  There was no way I was going to choose between my two sisters.  The night we got engaged my fiance actually said, "Now I have to decide who will be my best man, X or Y."  He was quite pleased to hear a decision didn't need to be made.

It certainly doesn't need to be "even" on both sides.  You choose who you want to be up there for both of you on your special day and go from there.
  • i'm having a matron and a matron of honor, and my fiance is having two best men.
  • i think its fine too. although i have 2 myself. (2 maids of honor, 0 matron since she backed out at the last minute, and 6 bm's) FI has 7 on his side (including the best man) and i am having one guy walk with 2 girls. hth
  • I have my two sisters as maids of honor.  I went to a wedding where the groom had all five of his brothers as best men.  It's just a title, you can change it to fit what works best for you!
  • What's the difference between a matron and maid of honor?? I have always wondered that
  • A matron of honor is a married lady. A maid of honor is not married.
  • i have 3... didn't plan to have a small bridal party, so had my two closest friends... but family drama, how come im not so surprised anymore, so i had FSIL as the 3rd just so im a bigger person in the whole drama. obviously, not the best decision i have made so far.
  • that's annoying, my FI's step mother has already asked that his nieces be junior bridesmaids!! They will be 19 and 16 when we actually got married and he isn't especially close to them to where they should be in the bridal party. They will be too old at that point to be "junior bridesmaids" anyway. Luckily, the FI said no before I could answer.
  • I'm having 2 matrons of honor (my two sisters).  We're also having two best men, but I'd suggest if you just have one best man, for the girls to walk up on either side of him.  We actually wanted to find a way to make it work out so we had some going up three wide just because we thought it would be neat, but it didn't work out for us that way because it was all evened out...
  • I am having 1 matron and 2 maids of honor, plus 4 other BM.
  • I am having a maid and a matron of honor (my two sisters).

I decided early on in my wedding planning that I wanted to honor my two closest friends and make them both maid of honor. We have a small wedding party and we felt that both girls on my side deserved the MOH status and the two guys on my fiance's side deserved to be Best Men. I think it's a great idea you want to honor both your friends with this title. Good luck with all your wedding plans :-)
