Another Random Questionnaire...because it's boring around here!

So i'm in a bit of a crabby mood this morning. Denver is under 2 feet of snow and I just want to be in bed. Then I read Beth's comment in RDR's survey about wanting me to post more...and it made my morning. So here you go Beth!

1. Name one person you find truly inspirational and tell me why. (Alive, dead, knottie, anyone!)

2. Name one thing you would secretly like to do even though it scares the living daylights out of you. (and you may not ever really attempt it because of fear)

3. Tell me about a time you somehow displayed strength or courage you never thought you had in you. Did you surprise yourself?

4. If you had a choice, what one characteristic would you want the world to remember you by? (family, career, specific skill, ideals, etc.)

  • 1. Name one person you find truly inspirational and tell me why. (Alive, dead, knottie, anyone!)
Our soldiers. They regularly put their lives on the line for our freedom. While we eat, sleep, drink wine, knot, and generally go on with our lives without thinking about them. They are amazing.

    2. Name one thing you would secretly like to do even though it scares the living daylights out of you. (and you may not ever really attempt it because of fear)
Skydiving. I keep saying I want to do it, but it just hasn't happened yet.

    3. Tell me about a time you somehow displayed strength or courage you never thought you had in you. Did you surprise yourself?
When I went away to college. Everyone in my family llived basically within a 20 mile radius, and I went 850 miles away when I was only 17. I don't know where that came from, but I moved several more times when I knew no one in the new cities I was moving, too.

    4. If you had a choice, what one characteristic would you want the world to remember you by? (family, career, specific skill, ideals, etc.)
Selflessness, that I would do anything for anyone, often at my own personal expense.

    1.  Jo Rowling, obviously.  I think she's amazing.  She never gave up on life.  She had a dream and she worked hard to make a reality.  She hasn't let her money go to her head.  She's funny, smart, opinionated...  She's just amazing.

    2.  Umm...  ski a double black.

<address>3.  Abbreviated version of a really long story:  one of my soccer coaches when I was younger was horrible to me in a lot of ways.  One day, I finally stood up to him.  It felt ahhh-mazing.  It was the first time I'd ever stood up to an "authority" figure.  I'm still really proud of myself for that.  I dont't know why I'm suddenly in italics.  I can't make it stop.

    4.  The first thing that comes to my mind is "funny".  For some reason, I just really love it when people think I'm funny.

  • 1. Name one person you find truly inspirational and tell me why. (Alive, dead, knottie, anyone!)
My grandfather. He is so strong, resilient, and will do anything for his family
    2. Name one thing you would secretly like to do even though it scares the living daylights out of you. (and you may not ever really attempt it because of fear)
    Bungee Jump
    3. Tell me about a time you somehow displayed strength or courage you never thought you had in you. Did you surprise yourself?
After my car accident - Yes. I dealt with more because of that situation than I ever knew I could handle

  • 1.  This is so cliche, but it has to be my mom.  She's the strongest woman I know.  She raised two kids to believe in themselves and fight for what they want.  She had an amazing career as a soldier, and since she's retired, she's continued to work for the soldiers as a contractor. I'm incredibly proud to be her daughter.

    2. I guess skydiving.  I'm really not scared of much.

    3.  When I was 15, I applied to live in Germany for a year.  I got the scholarship, and at 16 I got on a plane and signed paperwork that I would not see my family or friends for a full year.  Once I got there and the culture shock set in, I went through a bit of a "What the hell did I just do" phase.  I got over it, and had the best year of my life.  Then, I didn't really see it as a feat of strength.  I just saw it as an escape route.  Knowing now what I do, I think I did really surprise myself.

    4. Honestly, I don't care how people remember me.  I just want my family and friends to see me as having lived a good life, maintained a good family with my husband, and raised good children.  I want people to look at my kids after I'm gone and be able to say "Your mom was awesome," and for my kids to respond "She really was."

My mom. We haven't always gotten along, but nothing more than normal mother/daughter strife. We're both strong willed. But she's incredible hard working. At an age when most people are retiring, she ramped up her career and is doing incredibly. She travels, she's been wildly successful and she's earned it. She's the oldest of 7 and saw her sister and dad die back to back in not the greatest of circumstances. She came from not much and made a lot out of herself. And her and my dad have been together (and happy) for 42 years. That's something pretty awesome to celebrate! They still go on dates, which is hilarious and awesome.

    2. Name one thing you would secretly like to do even though it scares the living daylights out of you. (and you may not ever really attempt it because of fear)

Deep sea diving, or deep water scuba stuff. I'm all about the ocean. I love to snorkel and even dive. I've been to some beautiful places around the world and seen some awesome things in the ocean. But going too far down scares the bajeesus out of me! There are sharks, and whales, and deadly giant squids out there!!!!!

    3. Tell me about a time you somehow displayed strength or courage you never thought you had in you. Did you surprise yourself?

I dunno. I feel like I'm a steady person, a person who can take knocks and continue on, but not someone impenetrable. I cry when I get the knocks. I am emotional. But I don't think that makes me less strong.

    4. If you had a choice, what one characteristic would you wa
nt the world to remember you by? (family, career, specific skill, ideals, etc.)

Loyalty. I'm a good friend and will go to the ends of the earth for the people I care about. I'm not just loyal to people, but to jobs, mentors, brands of cereal!! The works.
  • 1. Name oneperson you find truly inspirational and tell me why. (Alive, dead, knottie, anyone!)
My mother, hands down. She is one of the strongest women I know. When she and my dad divorced it got ugly. My mom took the high road through it all. She never complained to my brother & I about our father, always maintaining that we should have a relationship with him. She's a happier, healthier person post divorce in every way...and I find that amazing. What is more inspiring than a person who can stand on their own 2 feet whenever they need to, but are so generously sharing their lives (and their hearts) with other's no matter their flaws?

    2. Name one thing you would secretly like to do even though it scares the living daylights out of you. (and you may not ever really attempt it because of fear)
Bungee jumping! I think it would actually be a pretty awesome experience, but I'm not so sure I could take that first step. If I did, i'd probably pee my pants anyway...

    3. Tell me about a time you somehow displayed strength or courage you never thought you had in you. Did you surprise yourself?
A girlfriend in college mixed medications and almost killed herself. Her roommate found her unconscious on the floor and immediately called me. Not the RA, not 911...me. I sprung into action mode, made the appropriate calls, and got her to the hospital in time. While all of the girls on my hall were crying and freaking out, I stayed calm. I still don't know how I managed that...but it's come in handy 2 other times in my life with similar situations and I'm proud of that.

    4. If you had a choice, what one characteristic would you want the world to remember you by? (family, career, specific skill, ideals, etc.)
I want to be remembered as a wonderful host and a gracious guest. It may seem a small thing, but there is nothing more important to me than spending time with beloved family and friends...and I want to make the most of those times.

Yay! These are hard questions I will have to think about them and come back to it.

I'm impressed that you stayed calm when that girl mixed her meds. I probably would've freaked out!

I'd love to get a tattoo of pink ballet shoes, I am so scared of needles

Left my job, family and friends and theater to go to grad school at WVU.  I moved to WV from where I was over 6 hrs away not sure of the area and not know a single sole for a grad school program that required 60 credits in 13months and international travel.  There were times I cried home stressed and wanted to quit, but I am so proud of what I did and accomplished in grad school.

  • I'm a day late, but I dgaf :p 1. Name one person you find truly inspirational and tell me why. (Alive, dead, knottie, anyone!) Queen Elizabeth the First. She was a smart-mouthed, tough, intelligent girl who, despite the terrible things her father did to and said about her, defied all odds by becoming the world's most powerful monarch. She spent hours studying and practicing her signature because she knew she'd be queen one day. Can you imagine that kind of faith? For Elizabeth to become queen, both her brother Edward AND her sister Mary had to die "without issue" (read: no kids). Well, Edward died at 15, and by the time Mary became queen and got married, she was infertile. Seriously, there must have been some kind of divine intervention for Elizabeth to take the throne (at age 25). She took lovers like it was no one's business. She refused to get married, and when her council tried to convince her she needed a child to be worth anything, she basically told them to go eff themselves. She led troops into war, funded the works of Shakespeare and financially backed discovery of the New World. In short: she was one badass lady. 2. Name one thing you would secretly like to do even though it scares the living daylights out of you. (and you may not ever really attempt it because of fear) Roller derby. I have the balance of a one-legged senior citizen, and I am a pain wimp. But man do I wanna skate and beat the sh!t out of people. There's a team that practices down the street from me but I am way too chicken. 3. Tell me about a time you somehow displayed strength or courage you never thought you had in you. Did you surprise yourself? I have yet to have any experiences like that :( 4. If you had a choice, what one characteristic would you want the world to remember you by? (family, career, specific skill, ideals, etc.) I'd like to be remembered as welcoming. No one leaves my house hungry, thirsty, unsatisfied or disappointed. I'm a very attentive host. I want people to remember how I made them feel at home.

  • 1. Name one person you find truly inspirational and tell me why. (Alive, dead, knottie, anyone!)

Debbie Rodriguez, author of Kabul Beauty School. She is awesome because she recognized a need in Afghanistan for women to be able to support themselves, so she picked up her life, moved there, and started a beauty school. No fanfare or anything, just realizing she could help and then doing it. It was a really brave and selfless thing to do, and I very much admire that.

Perform onstage - musically, in a play, improv. Whatever. Just command attention with my mad skills instead of my mad clumsiness.

    3. Tell me about a time you somehow displayed strength or courage you never thought you had in you. Did you surprise yourself?

I'm always surprised in retrospect when I just go someplace new and meet a lot of new people. Maybe not that exciting, but I am a 100% introvert (I literally tested that way), on top of which I am painfully shy, so it's a big deal for me to go somewhere I don't know anyone and come out with new friends. And I've done so much of that over the past few years through studying abroad and whatnot that I'm honestly shocked, and in a good way.

    4. If you had a choice, what one characteristic would you want the world to remember you by? (family, career, specific skill, ideals, etc.)

For being the go-to family member/friend/nurse/whatever-the-heck during a crisis. I want to be known for being knowledgeable, approachable, and trustworthy.
