Late in the game on this, but I also boycott Wal-Mart, Lowes, and the Salvation Army.
Wal-Mart is because I hate hate hate their business practices and I work in the corporate offices of a competing company whose policies I am actually okay with. Back in probably the 80's Sam Walton tried to bully my company out of business but thankfully my company (still family owned and operated!) pretty much told him to Eff off and we're actually doing BETTER than Wal-Mart now. Take that you evil empire!
Lowes & Salvation Army are for gay rights issues.
Add to the list AT&T - I loathe them. I had cell phone service with them for 7-ish years and was treated like crap the entire time. I will never ever use them again (purely from a customer service standpoint).
I also loathe comcast and if I had a choice beyond AT&T or Comcast for internet service I would take it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately it's one or the other, so I chose Comcast because of my above-mentioned hate for AT&T.
I am very much in the mind-set supporting local businesses and try to avoid chain stores when I can. FI and I rarely eat at chain restaurants as well (local restaurants are higher quality and better service with happier staff!)

No problem. I am not sure about the accuracy of snopes, but my brother is in Kuwait and got a stocking with Starbuck coffee in it. I don't remember where he said it came from though. The second website looks legit, since it's serving the troops directly.

Yeah, we have a local place I buy my coffee from, and it's still on the high side to me. I paid $9.17 yesterday for two medium frappe's.

FFS.
Here's something that makes me an asshole - I rarely get coffee drinks at Starbucks or comparable places, but when I do, I never tip the barista. I can appreciate that they made my drink, but it's an expensive ass drink, and I can get the same thing for way cheaper at the grocery store. Or the hospital caf down the hall from where I work? A cup of coffee is one freaking dollar. Sold.
This train has probably left the station, but I want to add my input too.
I actually boycott a local coffee place. When I found out that the support the Occupy movement, that was the end of my patronige there. They are easily the most poplular place in town too. Since then I have been going to a different shop that started local but is now a chain. I have also met with various vendors at this other shop, after they have suggested the one I boycott.
This is really the only store I boycott. But I would say that I pretty much boycott organic food. I never choose organic over non organic, but I will eat it if the food I order is prepared with organic food or I'm a guest at someone's house. After watching a "Bullshit" episode about organic food, they pretty much convinced me that there is very little difference. I also don't have anything against genetically modified food/crops. Honeycrisp apples were genetically enginered and they are the best damn apples I have ever tasted.

Rosie the hippy stuff is meant to be tongue in cheek and probably local because im surrounded by some uber liberal towns.
Other than the ones I listed I will add the Apple stores and Urban Outfitters . And Whole Foods. I hate that place.

Wouldn't it create jobs? Somewhere there is a factory with people who build the self check out machines. What about the repair man who maintains them? Also, when parts need replacing someone has to make and sell them. There's also the person who tends the section of self check out machines.

Machines make the machines. Basically, you have only a handful of people doing the work of what used to take many people to do. It's like Tim Burton's version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, when his father's job of screwing on toothpaste caps is taken over by machines. Sure, you need a few fixers, but that's less people needed than the amount of people that were needed to screw. Or what ever lol. At the supermarket, it's usually 1 person overseeing 4-6 self checkout lines where there used to be multiple checkers.
Hi girls! I just pick at your blog and I loved it!
I boycott taco bell, I can't believe they can sell food so cheap! I just can't standed!
Totaly agree with Wal-Mart here and everywhere!
This is a big one Tommy Hilfiger because he said in public that he wouldn't make them so nice! That they were ment for upper class people and since then everytime i see something I like and belongs to him I just put it back! Refuse to buy anything from him!
I've been boycotting Walmart for a while. They built one on farmland near us. After reading about their horrible manufacturing conditions, poor wages, and lack of US-made products, I make it a point to avoid it. I try to buy from local vendors. I try not to patronize the chain restaurants, Olive Garden, Outback, Chilis, etc.
