S/O - Playlists

The Do Not Play thread got me thinking...what would be on your Must Play List? Or your "Play If You've Got Time" List?

Marrieds/Engageds...post what is/was on those lists. NEYers, throw out what songs you'd want to play if you were getting married tomorrow. I promise I won't call you BSC for "pre-planning". ;)

FI and I want to do a semi-coreographed dance for our first dance to Michael Buble's 'Sway'.  We'll probably start off with a slow love song like his 'You and I' to get our traditional lovey/kissy first dance, then break out into a swing/salsa dance for Sway.

    Jemmini,
You’re getting married on my birthday (which naturally means it will be perfect) !!
Plus, that’s *exactly* what BF and I want to do for our first dance. We were gonna start with a slow mushy song like “She’s Everything” by Brad Paisley then whip out a salsa/tango/contemporary mix that we’ll choreograph. Let me know how yours goes J

    It's my FMIL's birthday also :)

I'll keep you updated on our dance.  Obviously we aren't going to start taking lessons now, because we'd probably forget everything...we'll probably start in the summer.  I'm excited to do something a little different (I know it's been done before, just not in our circle).

If we had a blues-themed (I use "themed" loosely here) wedding, I'm pretty sure our first dance would be "Pride and Joy" by Stevie Ray Vaughn. . . we love him.

We're also big bluegrass and country fans, so a lot of stuff like that would be on the "do play list" (except Rascal Flats - definite do NOT play - yuck). I don't really have any specific must plays. . . BF is more passionate about certain music, so he'll probably be in charge of this.

Hah, this is one of those things that I haven't started yet. I've collected some of those classical versions of rocks songs I like. I thought that would make for fun pre-ceremony music. I have piano or string versions of songs from Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, and Metallica.

I also got a piano version of "Beauty & the Beast" that I'd kind of like to walk down the aisle to, but I don't want to imply that FI is a beast. So I'm still debating that. (I do think most people probably wouldn't realize what the song is.)

I also really want to do a Glee-style performance of "Don't Stop Believin'," but I don't think I'll be able to get people together to rehearse.

I think the trick is just knowing what your friends will dance to. I tried to have something for everyone, but nothing my H and I really disliked. It worked out pretty well -- dance floor was full all night! :)

Kenny Chesney / Dave Matthews - "I'm Alive"
    Sade - "By Your Side"

    * My 92 yo grandfather can't make it to the wedding, and he was a WWII vet. We're dedicating this song to him at the reception.

I have so many but I can't think of them! I've made myself a list already though because I knew I'd forget. Right now I can only think of a few.

RHCP - Hard to Concentrate (first dance song)
Michael Buble - Save the Last Dance for Me (last dance song - surprise)
The Cure - Just Like Heaven (but I think I might use this for the ceremony)

    Songs that I love:
    Sade - By Your Side
The Cure - Friday I'm in Love and Lovesong
    A Fine Frenzy - What I Wouldn't Do
    Hedwig's Theme
    Anything by Shakira

Right now I'm obsessed with Miami's Latin radio station, which is good since we're planning to have some Latin/Spanish songs anyway. Some of my favorites are from here and they're just so much fun to dance to.

FI like the Foo Fighters, and so he told me every time he hears this song he thinks of me and us.  I would like to have a slow dance to it.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHsLuwdjbkI

Though he and I both would like to do a Latin dance for our first dance together.

EDIT: I would love to have "Soul Sister" by Train play, that songs makes me want to sing and dance because its so catchy.

I LOVE that song. It's so damn accurate. Plus, the "there's my daughter in the water" line holds some significance, considering a) I'm a marine biologist, and b) one of my dad's favorite things to do with me when I was a baby was play in the baby pool. I'm just praying I don't cry through the whole thing.

ps. If I look over at your table and see you crying, I'm soooooooooo screwed. Fair warning. ;)

This sounds silly but ... a few of my girl friends and I went on our first road trip 3 years ago and our "theme song" was "See You Again" by Miley Cyrus. We're all still friends, and I would want that song played and dedicated to them. Also, "Guilty Pleasure" by Cobra Starship. There's a little dance that goes with the song and I know all my friends would do it.

I would want Lady Gaga and Kesha played, too! Those are always good dance songs!

I know the music is something I am going to micro-manage, because I've known without a doubt the ceremony music since I started my junior year of high school. Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral for the entire thing, with the first kiss being the big amazing low brass section near the end and the doors closing at the final statement. (I warned you I am a music Nazi)

As for the reception If the DJ plays "We are Family", "Wild Thing" or anything based on the chord progressions of Pachelbel he will leave unpaid and with a bullet hole.

ricky, I will forever remember your wedding for two things:

    a) The full on rush to the dance floor/mosh pit that started when "I'm On a Boat" came on.

    b) Singing "So Close" to each other over our SO's shoulders and trying really hard not to start laughing our arses off.

    ahhhhhhhhhh memories :)

FI and I are going to be bad at choosing music for the rest of the wedding.  We both listen to rock, so not exactly appropriate for a wedding and that means neither of us really know any non-rock songs.  We are basically going to be counting on suggestions from our DJ for all of that.  LOL
