September 2014 Weddings

So how far has everyone gotten??

Ok, so my wedding isn't until September 20, 2014 but I just feel like I have to plan everything right away...we have the venue, which will host our ceremony and reception, color scheme is set (sunset), flower designs are prety much all ready - they are floating around my head and just need to be put into action, my dress is picked out - not purchased yet, and i've already got the guest list narrowed down, and most of the music....

i guess i just wanna get as much out of the way as possible so i'm not feeling rushed because i know time will just fly by.

  • My wedding is the same day and I have pretty much all the same stuff done! I am just way too excited and I don't want to miss any details.
  • yeah, me too...

i started making my centerpieces and aisle liners this week.  See pics below...

the aisle will be lined (every other row or so) with alternating orange/yellow potted plants (not real).

the is the 'rough' draft of the front view of the centerpiece - it still needs the ribbon and our label.

this is the top of the centerpiece so you can see the flowers that i am using.

  • I'm September 20, 2014! We're just starting out so hopefully by the winter, we'll have the venue and photog worked out. I really want to get the big stuff out of the way asap!

  • I'm September 13, 2014.   I've been married once before, so I kind of know what I'm doing.  We're on a small budget (about 6000..) and I'm hoping to do it mostly myself.  So far I've narrowed down all my venues, decided on flowers and everything.

BUT we can't book anything this early in our area because they won't let us book until this time next year.  I have everything I want laid out though, down to the ceremony layout.
  • Hi ladies.
    I'm Sept 13, 2014!

We have our ceremony/reception venue all picked out and booked.  What a relief, since we've been engaged for almost 4 years - haha.  My whole problem is not knowing what type of wedding I wanted (destination vs. at home).  We selected at-home and I couldn't be happier.  Our venue is totally booked for 2013, so we went with 2014 b/c we just absolutely love it!

I'm ready to start really planning, now that it's official and really hope to be ahead of the game by the time 2014 rolls around.  I'm hoping this early in the game helps eliminate the stress closer to the date.

Can't wait to start sharing ideas with you ladies!!!

  • Wow, I feel behind compared to you ladies. We just decided on Sept. 2014 and we're touring venues in a couple weeks. I think I know which one I want, but I feel like I should tour at least a few before picking!
We're wainting until 2014 because we are both in our last year of college, and I really didn't want to squeeze planning a wedding into my school schedule. But it turns out that's what I'm doing anyway, becuase I just can't stop thinking about it!

Any advice for deciding on flowers? I'm not even sure what would be available. Shoud I wait until I meet with a florist to even worry about it?

  • I'm a 9/13/14 girl too :-)

I've got the venue set, picked invites, and starting to work on other things as I get a chance to. This is my 2nd wedding, so I'm going MUCH smaller & simpler this time around, which means I get to get creative :-)

And yeah, the time will fly by for all of us!!! Congratulations to all the ladies!
  • I'm a 9/13/14 girl as well Smile

We just got engaged on 10/14/12, but we've picked our bridal party & colors, narrowed down venues to look at, and toured one of them.  I made our card box for fun :)

Anyone else besides us getting flack for having such a "long engagement"?  I think it's just right!

    Hi!!

    I am a 9/20/14 girl as well!

And so far the only thing I have done is looked at how much things will cost, with the vendors that I want to use.  We have tentitvely decided on the venue, I have my bridal party picked (girls anyway) and we know what kind of honeymoon we want to take, and have looked into that.

Other than that, I am collecting pictures and pinning onto my Pinterest board. I think I might get more into it after the holidays. My dress and the BM dresses dont need to be ordered untiil December 2013, so we have time.

Congrats to everyone on their weddings!

  • MY SON ID GETTING MARRIED 9/6/14. WEDDING PARTY IS PICKED, DRESS IS BOUGHT, WE KNOW WE WANT THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS, WHICH MEANS EVERYONE WILL HAVE TO TRAVEL FROM OUT OF STATE. WE HAVE SEARCHED ON LINE, AND CANNOT DECIDE ON A CHAPEL,OUTDOORS, OR IN CABIN. COLORS ARE TURQOUISE AND SILVER AND IVORY, THE BRIDE WANTS A BROOCH BOUQET WITH SMALLER MATCHING ONES FOR THE 5 MAIDS. OUR MAJOR PROBLEM IS INCOPORATING THE IDEAS OF THE BRIDE AND GROOM. HE IS ALL COUNRTY,WANTING BLUE JEANS,BOOTS,BEER AND BBQ, WHILE THE BRIDE NATURALLY WANTS SOMETHING MORE ELEGANT, I AM IN CHARGE OF MAKING IT ALL HAPPEN AND KEEPING EVERYONE HAPPY. YEA ME!  IF ANYONE HAS ANY FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE OF THE AREA(AROUND GATLINBURG) OR SUGGESTIONS PLEASE FEEL FREE. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND CONGRATULATIONS.

My wedding is the 19th, and we literally have almost everything done except the cake. We're meeting next month with the bakery. My mom said I should take my time getting things done, but I'd rather be prepared incase I forget something. We were looking at the invitations the other day....
  • We Toured the Inn we love back in September of this year and booked it last month! Soo excited.. we have also booked the DJ and photographer. Have picked out the bridemaids dress color but havent decided on long or short or the rest of the scheme to go with it. Want it to be like rustic elegant so having a hard time not going over board on rustic and also not going overboard on elegant.. Love that the date is still 1 year 7 months away almost but also gives me way too much time to over think it all :)

  • We are booking our reception/ceremony site a week from today.  The site doesn't even start booking for 2014 until after the new year.  I have my flowers picked out (even talked with a florist when we had a date set for this last Sept) but will make some modifications since FI mother passed and I want to add a calla lilie to the bouquets in memory of her (even though I was against calla lilies when we started planning).

I've been slowly stocking up on decor and seeing where we can get the best prices for everything.  I've found some sites that I can get inexpensive decor I want.  Mostly just letting the idea turn in my head and writting them down so I know what supplies I need and how long it will take to make everything.
The only man a girl can truly depend on is her daddy.
  • All we've done so far is decide on a date and colors. That's it. I know I'm not behind... but then there are the eager beavers (ahem) who make me feel like we are! I'm going to a wedding fair here on the 20th with my sisters, stepmom, and future MIL, and I'm hoping to, after that, get some more things officially planned out!

  • I'm planning for 9/27/2014.  I called my venue and they made it seem like it's too early to book for 2014 yet.... It's a gorgeous place and I have a feeling I'm going to be calling them and the church soon just so I don't have to worry about it anymore.  I'm having issues choosing bridesmaids though, I currently have about 7 in mind (my sister his sister included) and 3 friends from college and 2 from high school.  He only has about 4 guys picked....so we were thinking of throwing my 2 guy cousins in there and just doubling up a guy.  Any thoughts?  I don't know how to tell one of my college friends that I don't really want her in the wedding though....but the college friends are like a group so you can't reallly say yes to 2 of them and no to 1....any thoughts on how to tell her no?

Maybe instead of having her in the actual wedding party, assign her a job to do that day to help out. Helping set out wedding programs or making sure the vendors are doing everything how & when they should be, etc. That way she feels included, but she's not in the wedding party itself. And you can use the uneven number of guys to girls as a reason for why you want to do things that way, too....
  • I keep looking at venues. I've gotten magazines and a planning binder.  But then I get overwhelmed at what seems impossible to plan so I stop looking.  I'll get to it eventually.

  • Thanks for the advice! I've decided to make a high school friend and the college friend readers in the wedding! On another note, we booked the church I wanted and the priest is super nice!
  • We just got engaged earlier this month (May 2013), and are thinking either September or early October, because of weather considerations. It will be in MI, and can't be too hot or too cold, and we can't have precipitation.  How did you all arrive to your Sept. wedding date?

Since we're from out of town and will only be visiting once or twice to organize wedding stuff, I'm trying to get the big stuff settled asap. However, FI really doesn't understand American weddings and all the planning that goes into them, as he's from a place where, quite literally, you pick a venue, and they do EVERYTHING for you--including the entire wedding ceremony, deciding what the place will look like, colors, etc.--except pick out the wedding dress, the groom's clothes, and the wedding bouquet. There is no wedding party, and there are no pre-wedding celebrations except bachelor/bachelorette, including not having a rehearsal or a rehearsal dinner.

He just doesn't get it, and is not talking to me about things that need to get done, because he thinks we have "plenty of time." How exasperating! I feel like we aren't going to get everything done, because he just doesn't want to talk about any of it! :(
  • September 5/14. So far I have the following booked: DJ, videographer, photographer, venue and ceremony (same place), invitation design, wedding colours, wedding dress purchase, made our cake topper and took one of my girls out to rule out bridesmaid dresses.

Planning stages: have been in contact with officiant services, have been in contact with florists, started collecting supplies for decoration projects.
