    Sad day. :(

    I'll go first...

    1.  FI and I shopped together for a few months.  He bought my ring while I was present...in Mexico.

    2.  Well, I liked right after he proposed and I just felt so happy.  I was crying and I was just like..."So how many people knew about this?" and the entire boat raised their hand.  I also liked that night when we went out to dinner...I was so ecstatic.  We were seated in a booth and I was just so happy that I went to sit on his side of the booth we him and we snuggled while we ate.

    3.  I called my mom.

    4.  My aunt Rose reacted negatively.  My grandma was really surprised and kept asking me if this is what I wanted.  And my brother was really happy for me, but I know he thinks I'm too young.

    5.  My center stone is a 1ct modified brilliant cushion cut.  It's an E or F color...I can't remember.  And it's preeeeetty.

    6.  I love Cate's ring.  Her center stone is gorgeous and I like the twisty part of her band.  It's beautiful...I'd steal it.

    7.  I was wearing a yellow top, a white open front cardigan, jeans, and flip flops with a pink flower on them.

    8.  I love cushion cuts.  They are very sparkly, aren't too round, and aren't too square.  I don't like heart shaped diamonds.  They just look like they're for a younger girl who's playing Pretty Pretty Princess IMO.

    YAY!!! I CAN PLAY!!!!

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?
We picked it out together.  I knew when he bought it, but I didn't realize he had picked it up yet.  And it was definitely still a surprise when he asked!

    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?
I just remember his face, his huge grin and how he said, "Cate (full name), will you marry me?"  Goosebumps!

    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?
Uh, once I stopped shaking?  I think I called my parents, but they didn't pick up.  So I called my brother (who they are visiting) and he also didn't pick up.  So I called my brother's girlfriend and I knew I loved that girl - I asked if my family was with her and she said yes and asked which one I wanted to speak to.  She knew immediately what was going on and yelled at them to all come in the room and put them on speaker. So I told my Mom, Dad, brother, and the girl I hope will someday be my sister-in-law at the same time!

    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?
Not yet!  I don't expect so.  FI's sister is mad at him currently, so we left her a voicemail but haven't spoken to her yet.  He thinks she might think he proposed just to take away from her excitement of having her first child (and the first grandchild) last week.  But that's just silly.

    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)
My great-grandmother's stone!  1.32 carats (according to the appraisal).  It has a very visible occlusion which is completely hidden by the setting.

    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.
Besides my own?  Kat's.  I think it's stunning and I love that her DH custom made it.  I do feel bad about the ring-swap story but so glad he figured it out and was able to force the jeweler to make it right.

    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?

Uh... a towel?  Anyone believe that?  I'm hoping my grandparents and parents do at least!  Okay, okay... I was wearing... my favorite shade of nail polish and not a darn thing else!

    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?  What about your least favorite?
I never really thought about this since I already had the stone.  I think I would have gone for a marquis or something, but I love that I have a round stone but with a square halo so it looks like both depending on how closely you look!

I think it took me a few seconds to smile.  I was so shocked!

And I'm really really flattered that you like my ring!  But you'll have to pry it from my kung fu death grip, beyotch.  And I say that with love.

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?
    It was a total surprise.

    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?
I love that he chose to include my family and some of my closest friends and esp the Sunday School class I teach in the proposal.

    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?
my 2 BMs that were not present at the proposal (one lives out of state and the other goes to a different church...my MOH and another BM were at the proposal)

    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?
Nope - everyone was so incredibly supportive and happy for us

    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)
center stone is a heart-shaped ruby

    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.
can't think of anyone in particular, I think everyone's rings fit their personality just right.

    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?
a polo shirt and capri pants

    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?  What about your least favorite?
don't have a favorite or least favorite - can't even tell you what the difference between any cuts are

    1.  We shopped together, then created the design together.  I handled all the details, though.

    2.  The way he said "Do you promise that we can have this much fun for the rest of our lives?"  It was like he wanted to make sure I don't get boring after we get married.

    3.  I didn't call anyone for a while.  I announced it on here a few days after, but we wanted to tell my parents in person, so we were quiet until we could make the trip.

    4.  If anyone has reacted negatively, it hasn't been to our faces.

    5.  Cushion cut moissanite, equivalent in size to a 2 carat.  2 carats in a cushion doesn't look as big as a round.

    6.  I love Panda's ring...  both of them...  because she's kinda my jewelry idol.  I also drool over Schiano's.

    7.  A t-shirt, the long thermals I wear under my ski pants, and ski socks.

    8.  Favorite:  cushion, obviously.  I like the gentle corners and I think it flatters most finger shapes.  Least favorite:  Pear, probably.  Or heart.

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?
Both.  We went shopping and picked out a couple, he then had them meshed into one.  It was a complete surprise that he had it simply because he kept talking about how broke he was.  I realized later that it was because he had bought the ring that he was broke.  D'oh.

    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal? His best friend tackling me.  The proposal was perfect, but I loved that everyone was already there.  His best friend, who is both a football player and a police officer, came running out from behind the aquarium and almost knocked me into the harbor when he scooped me up in a bear hug.

    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?Daddy.  He was so excited.  I called Mom after calling the rest of the family (grandparents) because I was terrified of her reaction.

    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?
Surprisingly, no.  My BFF has been super against weddings after some crap that happened, and she confided in me that FI and my wedding is the only one she's not against.  :D.  Also, I completely expected Mom to freak out and flip into some sort of tirade about how it shouldn't have happened, blah blah blah, but she flipped into planning mode. <3

    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)0.66 carat round diamond.  It's brilliant cut and some sort of ridiculous color rating.  He spent the money to get a smaller stone with a better cut, color and clarity, so the only inclusions are microscopic.

    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.Hmmmm...I like everyone's?  I don't like to pick favorites.  I think it's really what you love, and I'm not going to tell anyone I hate their ring.  Although I really love Cate's setting.

    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?

Jeans, a nice shirt, black blazer and wedge sandals. (I actually had a pretty good idea it was coming, so I dressed up.  I know, I know, that's cheating)

    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?  What about your least favorite?I'm a round-cut all the way.  I love that they're so versatile, and that if we ever do decide to upgrade, it could easily be reset into anything else (his ring, a necklace, the side stones into earrings because they match perfectly...I could have an e-ring jewelry set!)  I'm not a fan of the Asscher, Cushion or Princess cuts.  I don't know why, I just could never pull them off, and so I marked them off of the "like" list a long time ago.  I also am not a fan of heart-shaped stones.  For the same reason Shoes mentioned.

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?

Both, we went and looked at rings, but he told me it was to get information for his brother who was about to ask FSIL to marry him.  Then he proposed without a ring and we went to get it.  He had picked out one he thought I would like, but wanted to make sure it was right because I like smaller rings than he did.  He got it right but was not sure.
    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?

I loved that he did it on an ordinary day, as I was doing homework.  I also love the poem he wrote.
    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?

I called my dad, then my mom who was at work.

    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?

Not at the time.  Since then one friend has been very negative, telling me I shouldn't change my name (and arguing about my choices) and being very pushy about how we should not have kids.

    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)

    Its round cut and sparkly.

    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.

    I don't know

    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?

    Jeans and a sweater.
    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?  What about your least favorite?

I hate heart ones, other than that I like them all.

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?
We shopped together and he left it out for me to see it for months after he bought it. He loves to torture me!

    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?
I yelled at him for not being down on one knee. He got on one knee and re-asked. We laugh over it now.

    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?
We flipped a coin to see if we should call his parents or my parents first. His parents won the coin toss but they weren't home and didn't answer their cell phone. So, my parents won by default :)

    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?
My brother said "Yeah, when you are actually walking down the aisle, then I'll believe you're actually going to get married" He said it jokingly because I called off my first engagement with a different guy. I know he said it as a joke, but it still hurt.

    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)

    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.
I can't think of anyone's in particular, but whenever anyone shows off a new ring, I usually think ooooh, pretty!

    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?
Ugh, I'm such a bad girl. I don't remember what I was wearing!

    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?
I like princess cut and round. They are the most sparkly

     What about your least favorite?
Heart shaped. I'm completely against all hearts in my wedding. I feel like they are slightly young looking. (Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone with that comment, I've just never been a heart kind of gal).

    I can't play :(

I really like Mutley's ring, and Schiano's and Elle's as far as non-diamond rings go. My favorite cut is either princess or round. I am not partial to marquis. Or three-stone rings - I like solitaires with a halo setting, personally.

    Let's do a sparkly-related Q&A!

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?

We went out to get ideas on Halloween 2009 ( my late mother's birthday ironically enough) , and went to Shane Co. and my now husband actually found the setting immediately but wanted me to look more , and we eventually came back to the first one , picked an amazing diamond and bought the ring but told me the proposal would come later.

    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?

The day he proposed my husband was supposed to pick me up from work but phoned me to tell me he wouldn't be able to make it and I needed to take the bus home. That particular day some stranger tried following me home and a car nearly ran me over getting to my apartment complex. I walk in , throw my stuff on the counter and open my laptop to play WoW. My husband asks me how I was and just have my hand up kind of resting my head on my hand and blocking my view of him. Next thing I know he is calling my name and I look over and he is on one knee with the ring. It wasn't supposed to be ready until the next week. He totally surprised me !!

    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?

I didn't call anyone actually. My husband told everyone in WoW that he just proposed to me , so our closest friends all knew at the same time first :)

    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?

No we were very lucky !
    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)

Center stone is round and .34 and chosen by us both. The side diamonds and pave diamonds are part of the setting :)

    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.

None actually. I think we all have unique styles that suit us best :)

    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?

I just got home from work so brown courduroy pants and some shirt and my work nametag..sexy huh ? :)
    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?  What about your least favorite?

I love classic round - It's classic and never goes out of style in my opinion. I really hate princess cut , I just don't care for the sharpness of it at all.

    1.  I showed him the Etsy store and he found the ring, which he showed me before ordering.
    2.  My favorite memory is actually the lead-up to the proposal. I was waiting for it and it wasn't happening at any seemingly opportune moment. I was bug-bitten and gross. I snapped a picture of the sunken garden right before we walked into it. And that's where he ended up proposing.
    3.  My parents and some of my grandparents were actually there, but didn't witness the proposal. I texted a ring picture to my aunt, cousin, and a couple friends.
    4.  No negative reactions that I can recall. I feel like maybe my FSIL was jealous and her rushed wedding may have come out of that somehow, but that's all just guessing and it may well have had nothing to do with us.
    5.  2.5ish carat lab sapphire, most gorgeous shade of blue, set in 14k white gold with hand engraved floral band

    6.  I like arwo's ring because it's from the same place mine is, and is a star sapphire, IIRC. Love me some star sapphire.
    7.  Looking at the picture on our wall from the proposal, a green jersey sundress and leather gladiator sandals
    8.  I love oval and marquis cuts. Round ones are boring to me.

It was a surprise. We had went ring shopping a few days before but the ring was already ordered and on it's way. My cousin was already fighting with FedEx because it should have been there that day.
    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?
Me jumping up and down and FI going "Why are you doing that?"
    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?
I called my mom leaving FI's house. She already knew it was coming that night so I let her sweat it out.

Round .60 carat. It was from my great-aunt's wedding ring that she had actually given to my grandmother then took it back once I was born.
    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.
I can't remember one off hand.
    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?
A white flowy top and jeans. Probably flip flops too.

I think cushion cut diamonds look so cool. I'm not a fan of marquis cut.

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?

Complete surprise, although I had mentioned characteristics of things that I like.

    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?

Seeing FI a little tongue tied. He knew I'd say yes, but was the most nervous I've ever seen him.

    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?

My parents, although my dad was already in bed. so we only spoke to my mom.

    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?

Not that I am aware of.

    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)

0.5 carat round centre Canadian diamond. Not sure of the details after that.

    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.

I'm not sure. I do really love Cate's though.

    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?

Is it bad that I can't remember. I know it was something casual like jeans and a sweater, but I can't remember anything more detailed than that.

    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?  What about your least favorite?

I don't really pay attention to this very much. It is more the setting that I notice.

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?
the ring was a family heirloom, so we never went shopping for an e-ring.  however, we did go shopping just for fun and it was interesting to see how different our tastes are in rings!  the proposal was definitely a surprise.

    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?
I was so shocked by the surprise that I thought it was a joke at first, and when it finally hit me I started punching him in the arm asking who all knew about this!  and he was so excited.  all night he had been cranky and irritable, and wouldn't hold my hand or anything because he was nervous about losing the ring.

    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?
    my parents and his mom.

    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?
um, an older lady in our Spanish congregation.  she thought we were too young, that we should be older than 30.  oh well!  haha

    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)
center stone: either 1.57 or 1.75 ct oval cut, slightly yellow in very bright light but the highest clarity.   my great-great-aunt must have "sacrified" the color for the size and clarity, haha!  the two side stones are .3 each.

    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.
I like Cate's and desert's!  love the swirly band...

    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?
black turtleneck and denim skirt with boots and tights.

    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?  What about your least favorite?
    I really don't have a preference...

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?
We picked out the ring together but that was almost a year before the proposal so I did not know when he bought it.
    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?
The people clapping for us after I said yes.

    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?
His parents since they are in a time zone two hours ahead of us and were waiting up for us to call.

    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?
    Not that I noticed.
    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)
1.5 ct equivalent enhanced cushion cut moissanite.

    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.
I love Cate's ring (love the detail on the side), Elle's ring (love the yellow sapphires) and cschiano' ring  (love the sapphire center stone).
    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?
A white sundress with blue flowers on it and a white sweater.
    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?  What about your least favorite?
I love my cushion cut because it is a nice mix of round and princess while having a vintage feel to it. I do not like heart shaped stones.

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?
We didn't shop together but he asked what I liked and my only suggestions were three-stone and white gold.  We also found some pics online of rings.  The rest was up to him.

    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?
    "So...can we go swimming now?"
(He said it to me after the whole thing...we had planned to go swimming earlier in the day and had to put it off due to rain)

My mom.  But she knew it was coming.  I was the only clueless one.

Finally a break in the day.

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?
With, if I left him alone with designing I would have got a marquise stone that would be set perpendicular to my finger, like an eye!  All sharp angles and what not. I'm a vintage girl.
    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?
Putting down my surf board to look up and see him on one knee in the sand.
    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?
My mom and I then texted my sister.
    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?
No, it was more relief and the feeling of finally you guys did it.  FI's mom was the most relieved that her son has caught me.
    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)
I was a big fan of princess cut and very adamant about getting that, but we found a setting in which a round brilliant cut looked so much better.
    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.
I think its Mana's ring, I love the setting it is almost what i wanted mine to be originally.
    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?
A wetsuit I just got out of the water from surfing.  Salty, and wearing neoprene soooo attractive with my hair matted to my head....
    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?  What about your least favorite?
I will still admit I like princess cut but rounds are just as nice.  I really don't like heart shaped.  No offense to anyone who has one.  I just can't wear it and think of myself as a grown adult.

FI holding the e-ring and matching wedding band. It has engraving on the side and lattice work, with 7 small stones that trail up to the center stone.

Taken right after the proposal, mind my hands they were still cold and numb from paddling in the surf.

    1.  Did you shop for your ring with your SO or was it a surprise?
It was a total surprise. He reallt wanted to go it alone, so I humored him. It never occured to me that he would have designed it himself though! The extent of our "ring shopping" involved looking at pics a little over a year before we got engaged.

    2.  Favorite memory from your proposal?
Hmmm, we had an argument that morning because he is always so late. Later I found out it was because he couldn't find the key to where he locked the ring in! Poor guy!! Haha, makes me laugh now though!

    3.  Who did you call first after getting engaged?
    My parents

    4.  Did you have anyone react negatively?
    Nope!

    5.  Describe your center stone.  (Pics are also welcome)
It's a round cut 1.25ct center stone diamond.

    6.  Knottie whose ring you admire the most and why.
Oh man. When you've been on NEY for a while you see a lot of beautiful rings! I don't think I could pick one! (That being said, Cschiano, I love yours! I don't think I've seen it before)

    7.  What were you wearing when you got engaged?
Jeans, purple and pink polka dot silk blouse, teal cardigan, teal wool hate and black wool peacoat. (I swear, my outfit was cute. It sounds horrific!)

    8.  What's your favorite cut of diamond?  Why?  What about your least favorite?
I don't know!! I love my round cut! I never thought about it too much.
